I photographed this amazing pool / cabana combo late summer 2020. It’s one of my favorite shoots to date. Prior to photographing this property I spent some time studying a copy of Slim Aaron’s, “Once upon a time”, that belonged to the homeowners at a shoot I did earlier that summer. Feeling inspired,I tried to channel Slim in these shots. Slim was well known for not using models, lights or makeup. Slim arrived at a location and found ways to work wonders with what was there. In once instance he scouted a local woman at Marina in Italy, said something like “I’m a photographer you should model for me”. She agreed and the shot became legendary. Slim’s ethos was simple, “photograph beautiful people, in beautiful places, doing beautiful things”
Going into this shoot, Kerry and I hadn’t planed on using a model. I arrived pretty early to give myself a chance feel out the property. The woman who ended up in these shots, a neighbor who happened to be house sitting, have never modeled before. After pitching the idea to Kerry, I asked the house sitter if she was interested. She said yes, went back into the house, came back in this suit and totally nailed the shots. I did end up using lights, but I think Slim would approve.
