Yesterday I talked about why prospects default to price questions.

Today, let me show you what happens when you fix your positioning:

BEFORE (commodity positioning): Prospect: "How much do you charge for website design?" You: "Well, it depends on scope, but typically $3-8K..." Prospect: "Hmm, I got a quote for $1,500. Can you match that?"

Someone asked me this yesterday, and it's actually a fascinating psychology question.

Here's what's really happening in your prospect's mind:

Scenario: They need help with [your service]. They start researching options.

Website #1: "We provide expert solutions tailored to your unique needs."
Website #2: "Quality results with personalized attention."
Website #3: "Professional service you can trust."

All sound familiar, right?

From their perspective, you all look identical.

So their brain does what brains do when faced with identical options: it defaults to the easiest comparison metric.

Price.

It's not that they don't value expertise. They just can't see the difference between your expertise and everyone else's.

It's not that they don't want quality. They assume everyone's claiming the same level of quality.

So clearly, the "How much do you charge?" problem is REAL.

But here's what might surprise you about why it keeps happening...

It's not because prospects are cheap. It's not because your market is "price sensitive." It's not because you need to lower your rates.

It's because your positioning makes you look identical to every other option they're considering.

Think about it from their perspective:
