🇺🇸 Printing helped launch a nation.

On the night of July 4, 1776, printer John Dunlap worked through the night to produce the first printed copies of the Declaration of Independence. Without those printed broadsides, the news of America’s independence would have spread much more slowly.

Even 250 years later, printing continues to connect people and share important messages. Happy Independence Day from all of us at The Print Shop! 🎆

✨ Talk of the Town ✨

This week, we’re shining a light on The Print Shop and Blue Thursdays. 💙🎶🖨️

Some businesses are more than the products they create. They become part of the story of a community, and that’s exactly what The Print Shop Medina has been.

Long before Nola’s Gaming & Crafting Café opened, we were selling snowballs at Blue Thursdays Medina. Week after week, we watched neighbors gather for free live music, great company, and some of the best summer evenings our village has to offer. 🎷🎵

When Ken first learned what we were trying to bring to Medina, he got it immediately. He understood the spirit and culture we wanted to share. The food, the music, the colors, and the sense of community that makes New Orleans so special. He helped make sure our branding reflected that vision, and that support meant the world to us.

Sometimes we think he would have loved what Nola’s has become because, at its heart, it keeps a little bit of that New Orleans spirit alive right here in Medina. ⚜️💙

Today, The Print Shop continues to thrive under dedicated ownership and a hardworking team that consistently delivers outstanding work for Medina and the surrounding communities. Their creativity, quality, and commitment to local businesses are evident in everything they do, and it’s clear that the same spirit of community and pride that helped build The Print Shop continues to shine today.

And Blue Thursdays remains one of Medina’s best traditions. Free music, great bands, familiar faces, and a reason to spend a summer evening downtown. If you haven’t been yet, make plans to go. You won’t regret it. 🎶

🖨️ Printing Fun Fact of the Day

Did you know the phrase “hot off the press” is literally true?

Before digital printing, newspapers, magazines, and books were often printed at such high speeds that freshly printed pages would still be warm when they came off the press.

The heat came from the printing process itself, including friction from the machinery and the drying systems used on large commercial presses.

Because the newest information was found on these freshly printed pages, the phrase “hot off the press” became a popular way to describe breaking news or brand-new information.

🔥 Even today, we still use a printing term whenever we hear about the latest news!

🖨️ Printing Fun Fact of the Day

Did you know that the term “uppercase” and “lowercase” comes from the way printers stored type?

In the days of hand-set printing, individual metal letters were kept in large wooden cases. The capital letters were stored in the upper case, while the smaller letters were stored in the lower case for easier access.

Printers would stand in front of these cases and select each letter by hand to build words, sentences, and entire pages.

Even though metal type has largely disappeared, we still use the terms uppercase and lowercase every day when talking about letters and typing.

🔠 One of the most common terms in modern computing actually comes from a 500-year-old printing practice!

Printing Fun Fact of the Day

Did you know that modern air conditioning exists because of the printing industry?

Back in 1902, a Brooklyn printing company had a big problem. Changes in humidity caused paper to expand and shrink, making it nearly impossible to keep colors lined up correctly during printing.

To solve the issue, engineer Willis Carrier designed a system that controlled both temperature and humidity. His invention not only saved the printing process but became the world’s first modern air conditioning system.

Today, millions of homes, offices, schools, and businesses stay comfortable thanks to a solution that started in a print shop!

So the next time you enjoy cool air on a hot summer day, remember—you have the printing industry to thank.

FULL SYSTEM INTEGRATION
Our entire workflow has been updated to match real-world viewing conditions:
• Files are processed at 100% screen brightness
• Colors are calibrated to “held at arm’s length” accuracy
• All designs are previewed in slightly cracked-screen simulation mode

PRODUCTION UPDATES
• CMYK has been retired (it had a good run)
• Printers are now running in Red, Green, and Blue channels only
• Each job is adjusted based on “how it looked when you first opened it”

COLOR MATCHING STANDARDS
To ensure perfect accuracy:
• We match your exact device settings at time of approval
• If your screen shifts tones during the day, so will your prints
• If multiple people approve the design, we average all their screens equally
• If someone says “it looked different earlier,” we fully support that statement
