Lisa Jane Stories Made Visible

Lisa Jane Stories Made Visible Every painting begins with your story — a person, a place, a memory, a turning point. Hand-painted on natural wood with 24k gold leaf. Limited commissions open.

British artist · Ohio studio · Ships worldwide. "What if the story lived on your wall?" About Lisa Jane Design

I’m Lisa Parnell — designer, educator, researcher, and artist. For 30 years, I’ve lived inside the world of design — from painting signs at sixteen to teaching the next generation of creatives. But over time, I chose to slow down. The industry rewards speed; I value meaning. When my mum

passed in 2024, I painted her essence —
a butterfly with her fingerprint, gold leaf, and quiet symbolism. People began to ask, “Can you paint my story?”

That question became my calling. Today, I paint legacy art on wood —
each piece researched, symbolic, and crafted to last for generations. Every brushstroke is time, care, and memory made visible.

🌿 What I Stand For

I stand for slowness in a fast world —
for the kind of beauty that asks you to pause, breathe, and feel. I believe meaningful work takes time. That symbols hold stories. That art made to last for generations cannot be rushed. In a world that rewards speed, I choose depth. Every color, every texture, every symbol carries purpose. Nothing is decorative. Everything holds meaning. I honor legacy and connection — and the hands that make. Because what I create isn’t just for now,
it’s for the generations to come.

🎨 How I Work

I take only three commissions at a time,
because your story deserves my full attention. Every piece begins with a conversation —
your story, your symbols, your truth. I listen for what wants to be remembered. Then comes the research:
cultural meanings, natural patterns, emotional threads. I follow where the meaning leads. From the first sketch to the final touch of gold leaf,
each layer builds with intention. Every brushstroke is a quiet act of honoring. The process takes four to six weeks —
slow by design,
because your story deserves time to become art.

💫 Why I’m Different

Lisa Jane Design isn’t about décor —
it’s about devotion. I don’t paint what’s trending; I paint what’s timeless. Each piece is created to hold meaning — not to match a season or a style. I bridge design and research, emotion and craft —
an educator’s curiosity, an artist’s hands,
and a storyteller’s heart. My dyslexia taught me to see differently —
to find meaning in the patterns others might miss,
to paint stories that speak beyond words. After thirty years in the design industry,
I know what fast looks like. And I chose slow. Because this is slow art for a fast world —
intentional, lasting, alive.

💙 What I Promise

When you commission Lisa Jane Design, I promise this:

Your story will be heard — deeply, completely, without rush. Every element will carry meaning. Nothing decorative. Everything intentional. You’ll receive a painting built to outlast us both —
handcrafted on wood, made for generations. You’ll have my full attention —
only three commissions at a time,
so I’m painting your story, not juggling dozens. You’ll understand every choice I make —
the research, the symbols, the why behind every brushstroke. And above all,
your piece will hold time, care, and memory made visible. From my heart to yours. 💙

Sharing my client’s story book for Coming Home to Quiet.

This is such a heartfelt part of the process for me.

Alongside the painting, I create a small handmade book that holds the words, symbols, memories, and quiet details that shaped the piece.

It means the client has something to return to — not just the finished painting, but the story within it.

The book lives in the back of the frame, kept close to the artwork it belongs to.

A little place for the story to stay.

From my heart to yours,
Lisa Jane

Watch the little door close.

This is the back of Andi's painting, "Coming Home to Quiet".

Every painting I make has a handmade frame — built right here in the studio — with a small hidden compartment in the back.

That little space holds the hand-stitched book that belongs to the piece — her story, symbols, colors, and meaning behind the painting.

For now, this one is empty, but not for long.

This is where your stories will be painted.

A new studio — built from scratch, alongside a new chapter of Lisa Jane Design.

The spiral staircase. The space is taking shape. The easel is already waiting.

This is what building something real looks like — not always pretty or shareable, but deeply meaningful.

The studio is nearly complete. When it's ready, I'll bring you into it properly.

Commissions are open — only three at a time.

This is Held and Moving Forward — Stacy's story, painted on 48" × 48" of natural wood with 24k gold leaf.

At the centre is a daisy — simple, open, true. Stacy at the heart of it all.

A butterfly wing lifts beside it, holding growth and healing. A winding road moves west, carrying the miles, the memories, and what comes next. Marigolds for her dad's humour and love, always finding their way back. The colours of Dolly's coat — life's chapters stitched together and carried forward. And a gold arc holding her family, still close, still there.

Every symbol came from a conversation. Every detail was chosen because it was hers.

This piece now hangs in Stacy's office at Edelman Financial Engines in Akron — where it reminds her every day of who she is and what holds her.

Stacy wrote to me afterward:

"You were patient, kind and listened to my story. Who knew that just a few questions could create such a beautiful piece of art. You understood me, my story, and brought it to life for me."

That is everything.

Back in my ideas studio, sketching out a new commission while the snow does its thing outside.

This is what the beginning of a painting looks like — before colour, before gold leaf, before wood. Just pages and pages of listening made visible.

Every word on those sheets came from a conversation. Every question answered brings the painting one step closer to the person it's made for.

I've just completed my first large commission for a client — I'll be sharing the full story and the finished piece very soon.

A little glimpse into a new story art commission taking shape.

A daisy holds the centre, a butterfly wing opens for growth, and a winding road stretches toward the Smoky Mountains and the city lights out West — a journey of faith, family, and the courage to begin again.

Right now it's all pencil, ink, and symbols. Next the composition is refined, colours are mixed, and then it moves onto the 4' × 4' wood panel.

Quietly rebuilding and returning to the work that feels like home.

A new commission is beginning — the first conversation has happened, the story has been shared, and now the listening begins.

This is my favourite moment. Before the brush. Before the design. When someone's story is still just words, and I'm finding the symbols that will hold it.

New beginnings, steady steps, and a heart full of creativity.

What if your art held truths no one else could fully understand? What if it carried symbols from moments you witnessed alone? What if the gold leaf threading through it honored a resilience only you know you earned?

That's what I create. Through an intimate storytelling process, I translate your life - the real story, not the public one - into hand-painted art on natural wood with 24k gold leaf. There's always something deeply personal: a message for your younger self, a texture that marks the day everything shifted, a symbol from the place that saved you.

"I'm Lisa — a British artist creating from Ohio. After thirty years in design, I found what I was always meant to make: art that holds real stories."

My clients come to me at turning points - launching dreams, finding sanctuary, claiming new identities, marking transformations. They don't want decoration, they want something true that is theirs.

This is story art that honors your truth, and your story deserves to be permanent.

I didn't always create story art.

For thirty years, I worked as a signwriter and designer in the UK — hand-lettering shop fronts, designing brands, and learning traditional craft. Gold leaf application. Precision. Patience. The kind of slow work that can't be rushed.

In 2016 I moved to Ohio. I brought my skills, my tools, my training — but I was still creating for other people's stories.

Then in 2022 I travelled back to the UK and met Colin Seale — a Norfolk signwriter who had spent his whole life doing what I loved. He handed me his maulstick and said:

"Follow your dream. Go where you shine."

I brought that maulstick back to Ohio.

And in December 2024, when my mum passed away, and I painted her essence for the first time — I used it. I still do. Every single commission.

It's a bridge between the craft I learned in England and the stories I paint in America.
