Every CEO knows that investing in marketing targeted toward buyers who have intent and are ready to buy is the fastest path to conversion. Fewer realize overinvesting in it is just a fishing expedition.

Here's why:

→ Awareness is where buyers decide who they'll consider before they ever start shopping. Underfund it and your pipeline slowly starves—there simply aren't enough new prospects entering the system.
→ Consideration is where you're competing with every other company chasing the same in-market buyers. Without awareness upstream, you're paying more to win less.
→ Conversion is where demand either gets closed or dies. A broken handoff means the leads you paid for don't become revenue.
→ Post-purchase is where retention, referrals, and expansion live.

Ignore it and you're rebuilding pipeline from scratch every quarter.
Battle 7 of the 12 Battles™ Framework: the customer journey behaves like a system. Fund it like one.
Not equal budget across four stages. Intentional dollars where the machine is actually leaking—backed by research, not gut feel.

Playing it safe with your messaging isn't just boring.

It's flat-out dangerous.

When you sound like everyone else, buyers can't tell you apart. And when buyers can't tell you apart in the brand landscape (read: or “brandscape”), they default to whoever they heard of first—or whoever the low-cost alternative is.

And the danger of not owning a unique space in the market is that it inevitably raises your cost to acquire a customer.

Battle 5 of the 12 Battles™ Framework puts it plainly: stop trying to sound slightly better than the competition and start owning an opening in the brandscape that is both meaningful to buyers and unclaimed by everyone else.

Finding a real opening means asking harder questions:

Who do your buyers actually consider as competitors?
What do they use to make decisions?
Where is the market leaving space that you can credibly own?

If you haven't mapped the market through your buyers' eyes, you're guessing.

And guessing is expensive.

Twenty years ago, Lori Turner-Wilson made a bet most agencies weren't willing to make: that a marketing firm should actually be accountable for its clients' results.

Not "best efforts." A guarantee.

RedRover® turns 20, and that bet has never felt more right.

Why do smart teams resist necessary change?
It’s rarely about logic.
It’s about fear.

Fear of disrupting what once worked.
Fear of admitting the current strategy isn’t enough.
Fear of the unknown.

Battle 6 of the 12 Battles™ Framework focuses on torching strategies unapologetically when they are no longer working. The greatest risk isn’t making the wrong change. It’s making none at all.

There is a common assumption in B2B growth planning:
Once the deal is closed, the hardest work is done.

Battle 7 of the 12 Battles™ Framework focuses on investing in every stage of the customer journey, including the post-purchase stage where lifetime value is built.

Strong onboarding builds trust. Consistent communication reinforces value.

Deliberate expansion creates growth without starting from zero.
If you’re constantly funding acquisition to replace churn, that’s not scaling.

That’s leakage.

Treat post-purchase like a strategy — not a leftover task.

A full room of CEOs in DC.
Leaning in. Asking better questions. Refusing to accept average.

That’s what our Founder and CEO, Lori Turner-Wilson, experienced at the Vistage Worldwide Executive Summit last week.

She led a session on Predictable Marketing Outcomes, but what stood out wasn’t the content.

It was what happened next.

Leaders rethinking agency decisions they were about to make.
Others realizing how to push their current partners to perform at a higher level.
And some recognizing it’s time to make a change and finally knowing how to do it right.

That’s when real shifts happen.

When expectations go up, performance follows.

Thank you to Brian Roberts for the invitation and for building a room like that. And to the Vistage Chairs across the region, this is a powerful community.

And to every CEO who showed up ready to challenge the status quo, this is why we do this work.

You may love your brand story.

Your customers might not.

Battle 2 of the 12 Battles™ Framework focuses on admitting you don’t truly know your customer and learning how buyers actually perceive your brand.

That gap shows up more often than most leaders realize. Companies with strong products still lose ground when their brand doesn’t feel as credible.

As we unpack in The B2B Marketing Revolution®, buyers don't blindly believe your brand story—instead, they scan for signals they trust. When perception and reality drift apart, credibility drops and the rest follows.

The fix? Sharper truth. Grounded in hard data and real customer insights.

If you haven’t asked customers how they actually describe you, competitors are quietly defining you for them.

Quick question for C-Suite leaders:

Are you calculating Marketing ROI based on incremental revenue, or gross profit?

Most teams default to the former because the numbers look better.
The 12 Battles™ Framework identifies the strategic decisions leaders must win to achieve predictable marketing outcomes.

Battle 4 focuses on measuring marketing performance with accurate attribution and not incomplete data.

Incomplete revenue calculations don't spark real growth.
They hinder it.

The better formula:
MROI = (Incremental Gross Profit Driven from Marketing – Total Marketing Investment) / Total Marketing Investment

And here’s what most leaders miss:
An unusually high MROI can signal you may not be investing aggressively enough. If you’re earning a $10:$1 MROI, how much $2:$1 business are you leaving on the table.

If your marketing revenues aren’t improving capital allocation, it may be time for a second look.

Align yourself with the real growth formula here:
