After several weird encounters with opossums in 2018 through 2020 including where a possum came to visit on Christmas Day and gave us a TED talk. May 4th, 2021 a too small to be on his own possum found his way into the house and was caught eating Pancho’s cheese dip. We did know he was way too small to be by himself and opossum moms don’t come looking for their missing kids. Chandra and I took on taking care of the little dude. Pancho had come into our world. Within the first week we knew this was a good choice he found the right people cause he was a little weirdo. We spent hours, days, weeks of finding out everything we could on taking care of our little dude and he showed us he was weird too. Possums aren’t suppose to like garlic. This dude got hold of some and was kinda like this is mine now and had it every day. Once, we thought we lost him for 24 hours and then he popped up, sat on my head, and wanted cheese. From his love of great hot wings to him taking his favorite food(rats) and sashaying away with it to eat those in private. Pancho changed our lives. Especially mine. He was my first furry friend. I wasn’t raised with dogs or cats. My family was weird about those. Pancho has made us better humans and taught me a kindness I didn’t know I was missing. Pancho left this plane of reality on Sat March 16th. He was three which is extremely old for a male opossum and I’m not ok. Chandra is not ok. Both Abbi possum and Zoe possum are being extremely extra sweet right now cause they know. If it wasn’t for Pancho these two wouldn’t be in my life and I’m so grateful they are. Pancho will be buried next to the rose bush at my house along side his little adopted brother Templeton.
Know that possums aren’t dirty animals, they’re smarter than most people know. And they’re capable of giving the love you give them back.
Pancho will be missed but I hope his energy and love propagates to everyone he’s ever touched. He made so many people who were scared or hated them change their minds and became fans and friends. We love you endlessly Pancho an Templeton. You’ll be carried in our hearts forever. We hope you’re playing by the rainbow bridge with new friends and family. Know that you are loved and we’ll meet you there someday. You were the bestest boy ever.
