An airplane is a reflection of the person who built it.
A reflection of their dreams and of their personality.
Building your own Zenith from a kit gives you the opportunity to truly make it your own.

"Your goals and desires are more accessible than most people think. You just have to decide this is your year."
First shared by William Wynne of Flycorvair: "This aircraft just took its first 5 flights. It was a number of years in the making with its original builder, but it was taken across the finish line and flown by its new owner Ryan Schuur.
"N796AJ is a well built, clean, basic 601XL, a tribute to the craftsmanship of the original builder. It is a good example of how the design can be built in its most distilled, economical form, and still have a great amount of utility as workhorse. The plane has a 100hp Corvair, steam gauges, a Warp Drive prop , Zenith seats but no interior, and very few frills. Modest paint can come later, but it isn’t necessary to get started flying.
"If you wanted to replicate this aircraft from a brand new Zenith kit, and are willing to assemble your own engine from my parts catalog, you could come in under $50k. Now that isn’t pocket change, but the nature of the kit and the Corvair allow you to spread the cost over time. For people planning on building a kit, a review of possible options will not make this aircraft free, but it will show that it is an outstanding value and definitely among the most affordable planes to homebuilders.
"If you have put off your aspirations of building and flying long enough, make a pilgrimage to Oshkosh or the Zenith Homecoming, and see these planes in person. The Corvair is just one of several engines proven in the design, and of course you can build yours with any level of sophistication you desire (and can pay for).
"The main point: Your goals and desires are more accessible than most people think. You just have to decide this is your year."

"I’m having a blast flying it off our grass strip on the farm."
Jeffrey Sherwood's Zenith STOL CH 750 (in St. Louis, Michigan) featured in the June 2026 issue of EAA Sport Aviation magazine:
"I started this project with a trip to the Zenith factory in Mexico, Missouri. After a tour of the factory and a test flight to see if I could fit (I’m 6 feet, 3 inches, and it was no problem), I decided to order a kit. My dad and I went back in early summer to pick it up. I’m a farmer so the build was mostly a winter weekend project. I chose a Jabiru 3300 engine, and during the build, I went to Arion Aircraft in Shelbyville, Tennessee, for the engine forum. I strongly recommend this forum for anyone with a Jabiru engine. The registration is N4020. This goes back to the first tractor I drove and still own, a John Deere 4020. My first flight was on June 24, 2023, from the grass strip on our farm. The airplane flew hands off and performs as advertised. The transition from a Cessna 172 was no problem with the transition training during the first flight from Phil Cook of Lavion Aero in Zeeland, Michigan. I’m having a blast flying it off our grass strip on the farm."
