Itās officially Mental Health Awareness Month and I wanted to take a moment to share something important....
Social media is NOT real life.
Itās so easy to fall into the trap of comparison, especially when it feels like everyone else is thriving and living their ābest life.ā But the honest truth is that you really have no idea whatās going on behind the scenes.
If youāve ever scrolled and felt like youāre not doing enough, you're not alone.
My own social media is full of fancy professional photographs⦠but what you might not know is that those were all taken (for free) by my mama photographer. I'm not hiring professional photographers and having whole expensive photoshoot moments.
If you slide over, you'll see me on a standard day... No makeup, hair up, no fancy outfit, and my blanket in my lap. (Yes I always have a blanket on me when I WFH⦠yes I was that kid that always carried a blanket on them)
And to get even more honest, my own Instagram gives me more anxiety than any of my client accounts ever have. I reread captions 80 times. I get worked up over a single misspelled word. I put a ridiculous amount of pressure on myself... and I know Iām not the only one.
That's me and that's REAL.
If you havenāt taken a deeper scroll through my page yet, know this... I talk about mental health openly and with intention. Itās not just a buzzword for me, itās personal.
Iāve had my own struggles. And after losing a friend who battled with his mental health, I made a promise to myself to learn, speak up, and do more. Thatās why I will always support and be a part of organizations like AFSP and create space for these conversations... both online and off.
So with that said: you can expect more posts this month about the connection between social media and mental health. The good, the harmful, and the ways we can build healthier habits around it.
BTW Iām glad youāre here. š
