Copywriting used to be one of the most defensible creative skills in business. Good copywriters earned their fees because language was hard, persuasion was an art, and most founders didn’t have the time or the ear to do it themselves.

The defensibility of that work has thinned out fast. AI models now produce a first draft that is, at minimum, the equivalent of a junior copywriter’s output, and often better.

The professional value of a copywriter today is no longer the writing itself. It’s the editing, the strategic framing, and the ability to know what to keep and what to cut.

That’s a different skill, and it’s worth paying for, but it’s not a $5,000-per-project skill anymore. It’s a one-hour-of-editing skill.
