National Race to End Women’s Cancer
Hosts Pre-Race Fitness Event at the Piazza at Schmidts
(Philadelphia, PA) -- Join the National Race to End Women's Cancer for a pre-race event, “Get Fit for the Fight: End Women’s Cancer!” at The Piazza at Schmidts on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 10 am – 4 pm.
Get Fit for the Fight is a family-friendly event featuring the Philadelphia region’s adult and children’s wellness gurus for a day of fitness and fun to raise awareness about the rarely discussed, “below the belt” reproductive cancers and to rally support for this important cause.
Free, featured workout demos for adults and children include Zumba, ZumbAtomic, Piloxing, Kangoo Jumps and Domination Total Body Workout. In addition to the fitness activities, boxing champion Bernard Hopkins will make a special appearance in support of this event. Live music from “The Ones,” DJ Low Budget and pop artist Dirt Mansion will also perform.
The National Race to End Women’s Cancer, an 8K/1 Mile Walk/Run, takes place Sunday, November 4th in Washington, DC. The race is part of a weekend of awareness-raising and educational events for survivors, surgeons and other caregivers, families and friends. “GYN cancers are difficult to detect but there are symptoms,” says Get Fit for the Fight organizer Chrissy Stanojev. “The Foundation for Women’s Cancer wants all women to LEARN (the symptoms), LISTEN (to their bodies), and ACT (by seeking care from a gynecologic oncologist) to increase early detection and the best outcomes.”
“We hope this event spreads the word and supports the National Race, while also providing of day of fun and fitness for families in the Philadelphia area.”
