I lost a ₹2,00,000 project because I didn't know these 8 rules.
The client seemed perfect.
Responded fast. Loved my work. Ready to start.
Then one day — silence.
No reply to my message.
No reply to my follow-up.
No reply to my follow-up's follow-up.
I looked desperate. I was desperate.
And I paid for it.
Here's what that ghost client taught me:
01. Sending long messages = instant red flag
One message. State your value. Then stop.
Chasing with paragraphs screams insecurity.
02. Getting ghosted and following up 4 times
One follow-up is professional.
Four follow-ups is begging.
Send one. Then move on — permanently.
03. Caving to discount requests
The moment you drop your price without reason,
you just told them your original price was a lie.
Never discount. Offer a bonus instead.
04. Relying on one single client
I had one client. They left.
My income hit zero overnight.
Always maintain 3+ active clients. Always.
05. Clients with zero urgency
"Let me think about it" for 3 weeks means no.
No deadline from them = set one yourself.
Or walk away. Your time is the only thing you can't get back.
06. Letting them reduce your value
If a client constantly questions your price,
questions your process,
questions your expertise —
they're not a client. They're a problem. Drop them.
07. Looking desperate in front of a client
Desperation is visible. Clients smell it.
The moment you need them more than they need you,
you've already lost the negotiation.
08. No pipeline = no power
I had no other options.
That's why I chased. That's why I caved.
Build your pipeline before you need it.
Options give you the power to say no.
The hardest lesson?
The ghost client didn't hurt me.
My own behaviour did.
I fixed the behaviour.
The clients changed completely.
