📸 Go take pictures with your mom. Many know I am my mother’s caregiver and it’s been quite the experience (to say the least).
Once I mourned her diagnosis and came to terms with the changes needed in my life to show up appropriately, I decided to interview other adult children caring for loved ones with dementia and early Alzheimer’s.
All of them said, “I wish I took more pictures. I wish I gave myself more grace. I wish I asked them the hard questions when they could still answer”
Welp, I’m not one for regrets so when offered I accepted and showed up for 📸 we don’t need but will one day wish we had.
Them: And what are these pictures for?
Me: Her funeral or after we die 😄
Might be awkward but it’s real. This is a very real and sobering experience and that’s what makes it meaningful.
If you read this far, go call your mom. Tell her you love her 💕
