Our Story
Middlebury Produce was started in 1929 by Levi Bontreger. He was looking to provide an income for his family and neighbors and began to take live chickens from the area Amish farms to be sold in Chicago on the live market. Today, we currently have over 50 employees and have expanded our business into both Chicago and Detroit where we haul live chickens from area farms to the live markets in those cities. In addition, we also have a diesel repair shop. Through the years, the business has supported many generations of Levi’s family. Currently, generations 3 and 4 of the Bontreger family are still very involved in the day to day operations of the business.
