On the 3rd day of SHK, our anniversary countdown gave to thee… three things we’d change and three we’d repeat, after twelve years of learning what makes an agency complete.

JUST BECAUSE IT WORKS DOESN’T MEAN IT WORKS
We used to create every invoice in Excel, print every purchase order and file it away. It was 2014, but it was giving 1959. It worked, but it took way too much time and made pulling records harder than it needed to be.

PEOPLE BEFORE PRETTY OFFICES
For years, Jessica was the account executive, copywriter, client relations, social media manager, media buyer, photographer, videographer and, terrifyingly, the accountant. Basically everything except graphic design. Meanwhile, we were spending money renovating beautiful office space and paying rent. If we started over today, we’d work remotely and grow the team first. Great people helped us scale faster than pretty walls ever could.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE TAKE A DAY OFF
For almost 10 years, there wasn’t a single full day off. The computer came on every vacation and 6 AM to 8 PM days were normal. We got a lot done, but we’ve learned a break makes us more creative, sharper and faster. Go home. The work will still be there tomorrow.

Without our clients, we have nothing. We’ve always looked at it like every client is our boss and their best interest comes first. Twelve years later, that hasn’t changed.

We’re always looking for ways to do even better, even when what we’re doing is already good. A better process, a smarter system or even a 1% improvement. “This works” has never been a reason to stop looking for better.

CELEBRATE THE WINS!!!!
Turning 12. Getting a new client. Hiring a new employee. A design we’re obsessed with. Great engagement on an ad campaign. Big or small, we make a point to celebrate it. We’ll keep shooting higher, but the ride is a lot more fun when you celebrate along the way.
