The business you have now may not be built for the business you want next.
A brand can look fine for where you are today and still be completely misaligned with where you’re trying to go.

The same is true for your operations. The client experience. The way people move from interest to trust.

The small details that either make your business feel ready for the next level or quietly reveal that it is still being held together by duct tape.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we talk about the gap between vision and reality, and why the systems that got you started may not be strong enough to take you further.

I sent a proposal recently that I was genuinely proud of.

I followed up. I called. And I still lost the lead.

Not because my pricing was wrong. Not because my work wasn’t right for them.

Because a proposal sent by email is just a document. It can’t answer questions. It can’t calm nerves. It can’t make someone feel like they are making the right call.

Just dropped on the blog: “The Follow-Up You’re Not Making (And Why It’s Costing You Clients)”

Sneak peek: In a market where people are nervous about spending money, what gets them over the finish line isn’t a better PDF. It’s connection. And there are a few simple things that change everything.

But lately I’ve been honest with myself about something: a proposal sent by email is just a document. It doesn’t answer questions. It doesn’t calm nerves. It doesn’t make anyone feel like they’re making the right decision. And right now, people need to feel like they’re making the right ...

Most business advice praises consistency.

And for good reason.

But there comes a point where what once helped your business move forward can start getting in the way.

The process that worked when you started may not be the process you need now. The boundaries that protected your time may be creating friction for your clients. The structure that brought clarity may be keeping you from adapting.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we talk about the tension between holding the line and knowing when the line needs to move.

Five years in the making. Finally here.

I first worked with Summer five years ago, when we started building her brand and website from the ground up. Then life happened, as it tends to. She stepped back and tried to find her footing on her own.

About six months ago, she reached out again. The site was half-finished. A lot had changed. And Summer had grown into a clearer, more grounded version of what she was always building toward.

So we came back to it together. Updated the messaging, made the site more actionable, and looked at everything through a marketing lens. And finished what we started.

Summer is a depth coach. She helps people move through grief with intention and care. Her work is profound, and her site now reflects that beautifully.

It is done. It is live. Go see it: https://summersegal.phd

Most people think about sales when they need clients.

The problem is that by then, it's often too late.

The strongest sales processes are built long before a proposal is sent or a discovery call is booked. They're built through consistency and showing up over time.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we explore why sales is less about convincing people to buy and more about creating an environment where people already trust you when they're ready.

Because sales is about planting seeds long before it's time to harvest.

This quote hits differently when you think about how most small businesses actually get new clients.

For me, it’s almost always a referral. Someone heard my name from someone who trusted me. And that trust is not automatically transferable.

Just because your friend had a great experience working with me doesn’t mean you will. I still have to earn it with you. Every time. From the beginning.

That’s the reality of building a brand through relationships. It’s slow. It’s not a campaign or a launch. It’s a long game built from small moments: showing up consistently, doing good work, following through, and making people feel like they made the right call.

When a client comes back for a second project, that’s not just a sale. That’s trust. When they tell someone else about me? That’s a brand.

Worth building slowly.

What’s one relationship in your business that turned into something bigger over time?

Not everyone who owns a business is an entrepreneur.

And not every entrepreneur wants to build the same kind of business.

The two are often treated as if they are interchangeable, but they are driven by very different goals. One may be focused on creating stability, while the other is driven by a vision that keeps pulling them toward something bigger.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we explore the difference between being a business owner and being an entrepreneur, why that distinction matters, and how understanding where you are can bring clarity to the decisions you're making.

Because the goal is not to build your business like everyone else.

The goal is to build a business that aligns with the life you actually want.

A canceled meeting used to feel like the worst possible thing.

Now? Sometimes it feels like relief.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we talk about the unexpected moments in entrepreneurship that quietly reshape the way we think and operate. The situations that once triggered panic can eventually become the moments that teach you the most.

We talk about the pressure business owners put on themselves when things go sideways and how quickly stressful moments can turn emotional. Because entrepreneurship is not about controlling every situation. It is learning how to move through uncertainty without letting it consume you.

Pricing your work is rarely just about picking a number.

It shapes the way people experience your brand and plays a bigger role in your business growth than most people realize.

In this episode of Honest Brew, we unpack the realities behind pricing as a business owner. From undercharging early on to navigating custom proposals and client expectations, this conversation goes far beyond generic pricing formulas.

We also talk about how positioning influences pricing decisions and why understanding the person you are serving matters just as much as the work itself.

Because pricing is more than just numbers.
