Traffic signal improvements coming to U.S. 421 and Main Street in Madison

MADISON, Ind. โ€“ The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announces upcoming traffic signal improvements at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Main Street in Madison.

On or after Wednesday, May 6, crews will begin installing new signal heads at the intersection. This change will allow motorists to make left turns from southbound U.S. 421, westbound Main Street, and eastbound Main Street under a green designated left turn arrow.

The signals will also allow left turns to be made at these locations on green when vehicles are not approaching.

This change is being made to improve both vehicular and pedestrian mobility and safety in Madison. Intermittent single lane closures will be used for up to two days, while improvement work is in progress.

INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather dependent and schedules are subject to change.

STATE POLICE INVESTIGATION LEADS TO 29 DRUG RELATED ARRESTS

Jefferson County Indiana Sheriff's Office (April 16, 2026) โ€“ A months-long investigation has led to 29 drug related arrests involving a distribution network of methamphetamine, co***ne, hydrocodone, and alprazolam pills. The Indiana State Police (ISP) led the Investigation, titled โ€œOperation Clocked Outโ€.

โ€œThis operation reflects the culmination of extensive investigative work led by the Indiana State Police, strengthened through close coordination with multiple law enforcement agencies, whose combined efforts work to hold offenders accountable and enhance public safety.โ€ said Prosecutor David Sutter.

Sutter also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the City of Madison Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriffโ€™s Office during the ex*****on of the warrants. โ€œTheir assistance was instrumental to the success of this operation and reflects the strong interagency collaboration we rely on to protect our community,โ€ Sutter said.

The investigation began in February of 2025, after learning that William โ€œFlavโ€ Taylor was a major supplier of methamphetamine in Jefferson County. Throughout the investigation, Officers were able to confirm that Taylor was sourcing his methamphetamine and co***ne from Louisville, Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio.

On February 4, 2026, Taylor was arrested on a warrant on one (1) Count of Dealing in Methamphetamine as a Level 2 Felony. Officers executed the arrest warrant of Taylor when he was travelling back to Jefferson County, Indiana from Louisville, KY. Additional charges against Taylor are expected. A female passenger, Nichole Williams, was also charged with Co***ne related offenses. Indiana State Police continued the investigation after Taylorโ€™s arrest.

Through the investigation, which involved the Jefferson County Prosecutorโ€™s Office, City of Madison Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section, Kentucky State Police Campbellsburg Post and U.S. Marshalโ€™s Office, authorities learned that Taylor was supplying many others with illegal narcotics and led to the numerous arrests on April 15, 2026:
