August 26th is International Women's Equality Day is a powerful reminder that every woman deserves the same opportunities, the same respect, and the same recognition. Not someday. Today.
At Wide Awake Business, we're not just reflecting on how far we've come - we're committed to paving the road ahead. A road where every woman's voice is heard, her contributions valued, and her dreams made possible.
To the women breaking ceilings, building empires, raising generations, leading movements, and rising even when it's hard: You inspire us.
You are the change.
Here's to strong women: May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them
Let's keep pushing. Keep showing up. Keep lifting each other higher because true equality doesn't wait. It's built, every single day.

You’re Not Climbing Alone.
Even the best climbers use ropes and rely on their crew.
So why do so many leaders try to go it alone?
I’ve learned the hard way: Systems matter. People matter. Trust matters.
When things get tough, it’s your team, your mentors, your processes that keep you grounded and moving.
💬 Whether you’re building a business, leading a team, or chasing a big goal — you need people in your corner.

Today is National Climb a Mountain Day, and while most of us won’t be donning harnesses or heading for Everest, there’s a lot business leaders can learn from the trail-tested wisdom of mountain climbers. Because let’s be honest, running a business is a mountain climb. There are steep inclines,...

💙 International Humanitarian Day 💙
From the heart of Wide Awake Business
Today, we honor those who answer humanity’s most urgent call not with words, but with action.
At Wide Awake Business, we have the deep privilege of working alongside Registered Nurses and caregiving organizations who embody what it truly means to be a humanitarian. These are the people who walk toward pain, not away from it. Who show up day and night with skill, strength, and compassion, even when the world isn’t watching.
Whether it’s on the frontlines of a healthcare crisis, in the quiet rooms of end-of-life care, or in the chaos of natural disasters, caregivers are the heartbeat of healing. Their work reminds us that being “wide awake” is more than awareness, it’s responsibility.
💬 Humanitarianism means believing that no one is invisible. That every life has equal worth. That care is not a service it’s a human right. 💬
Today, we recommit to standing beside those who care for others and to building a world where empathy leads, dignity is defended, and compassion drives every decision.

What’s in Your Pack?
You can’t climb a mountain with a heavy pack.
And you can’t lead effectively when you’re overloaded.
In my own leadership journey, I’ve had to ask:
What responsibilities should I release?
Which tools or habits are actually slowing me down?
Am I carrying expectations that no longer serve me?
💡 Smart climbers travel light but bring the essentials.
This is your reminder: You don’t have to carry it all. You just need what helps you move forward.
👉 What’s one thing in your “leadership pack” you’re ready to leave behind?
Drop it below. Say it out loud. Let it go.

Stuck at Basecamp?
⛺ Everyone wants the summit, but most people get stuck at basecamp.
As a leader, I’ve seen it (and felt it):
We wait for perfect timing.
We obsess over plans.
We hesitate to take the first step.
But here’s the truth → Clarity doesn’t come from thinking. It comes from doing.
You don’t need a perfect path. You need momentum.
And momentum starts with one bold step.
So let me ask you: What’s one “next step” you’ve been avoiding and what’s stopping you?
👇 Let’s get real in the comments.

🧠 Smart leaders prepare for crises. Wise leaders prepare for grief.
Most of us won’t manage through a natural disaster, but nearly all of us will lead through something quieter, and just as disruptive: a teammate’s loss, a client’s death, or the slow burn of emotional exhaustion on our teams.
In care-centered industries, grief isn’t the exception. It’s woven into the work.
As leaders, we often ask:
“What should I say?”
“How do I support my team without overstepping?”
“When is it time to step back… or step in?”
Here’s what I’ve learned: You don’t need a perfect script. But you do need to show up with presence, empathy, and a willingness to hold space for what people are carrying.
💡 From practical communication strategies to the power of small rituals, here are ways to lead through grief with clarity and compassion.
What’s helped your team hold space through hard seasons?
👉

It ripples through communities, workplaces, and teams. While most leaders won’t be called to manage through a public tragedy, nearly all of us will f...

Business Isn't Just Strategy, it’s Humanity
🛑 Grief doesn’t stop at the office door. Why should our leadership?
A flood hits. A teammate loses a loved one. A colleague quietly burns out.
Grief wears many faces and too often, it goes unspoken in our professional spaces.
But here’s the truth: High-performing teams aren’t just driven. They’re held. And during seasons of loss, how we hold space as leaders makes all the difference.
Here are five ways to lead well through grief:
Acknowledge the loss, even if you don’t have the perfect words.
Offer flexibility because grief doesn’t run on a schedule.
Create small rituals that give teams a way to process together.
Communicate clearly, with compassion and repeat as needed.
Keep checking in, long after the flowers have faded.
This isn’t soft leadership. It’s strong, steady, human-centered leadership.
📌 If we say “our people are our greatest asset,” then grief leadership isn’t optional, it’s essential.
👂How do you support your people through the hard seasons?

The Leadership Skill We Don’t Talk About Enough
📉 Productivity drops. Morale wavers. Focus slips. But it’s not burnout, it’s grief.
Grief doesn’t always announce itself. It doesn’t punch the clock. And it doesn’t follow timelines.
Whether it’s the loss of a long-time client, a personal tragedy, or the quiet erosion of compassion fatigue, grief shows up at work, whether we acknowledge it or not.
Too often, we don’t know how to respond. So we say nothing. Or we rush back to “normal.”
But there is a better way.
✅ Acknowledge the loss out loud.
✅ Offer flexibility without judgment.
✅ Lead with your humanity, not a script.
✅ Build emotional infrastructure that lasts beyond the crisis.
Leadership isn’t just about vision, it’s about presence. In a world rushing forward, be the leader who pauses.
✍️ Let’s raise the bar on how we lead through loss. What’s one thing your team has done to support each other through grief?

Today, we honor Nelson Mandela, a global icon whose leadership transcended politics and left a blueprint for leading with purpose, resilience, and humility.

Mandela once said:

“It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory.”
As business leaders, we often measure success by numbers, growth, revenue, market share. But Mandela reminds us that true leadership is measured by the impact we have on others, especially in times of challenge. It’s about empowering teams, listening deeply, and standing firm on values even when the road is tough.

🧠 Here are three leadership lessons from Mandela every business leader can apply:

Lead with vision, not ego.
Mandela endured 27 years in prison, yet emerged without bitterness, only a clearer purpose. Great leaders hold fast to vision, not personal gain.
Collaboration over control.
He built bridges where others saw walls. In business, the ability to unite diverse teams and perspectives is a competitive advantage.
Resilience under pressure.
Mandela taught that perseverance isn’t about avoiding failure, it’s about showing grace and grit in the face of it.
This Nelson Mandela Day, let’s not just celebrate a man. Let’s embody his leadership.
💡 Ask yourself: How can I lead in a way that leaves others stronger?

If your team feels like they need a green light for every learning opportunity, you're slowing down potential.

Real growth happens when people feel safe to stretch, stumble, and succeed.

📚 Offer tools.
🎯 Support career goals.
🧪 Make room for experiments even the ones that don’t work.

Every time someone learns something new, your bench strength grows.
Every time they try and fail forward, your culture deepens.

🗣 Try asking this in your next 1:1:
"What’s one area you’d like more freedom to grow in?"

It’s a small question with big impact.

Here’s something most leaders miss:

Independence isn’t just for managers.
The most effective teams empower everyone to lead—right where they are.

When a team member solves a problem before it lands on your desk, that’s leadership.
When someone reworks a broken process without being asked, that’s innovation.

👏 Recognize it.
👏 Celebrate it.
👏 Encourage more of it.

🛠 Ask this today:
"Where could you take more ownership if you had more support?"

Empowered people don’t just do their jobs. They elevate them.
