Nice weekend: Friday saw "Pressure" at Richland Cinemas. Pretty good, EXCEPT for some stupid Army protocol blunders, like ... 4-Star General Eisenhower walks into the office of his British Army meteorologist and the jerk doesn't stand up. Based on my Army experience, that would NEVER HAPPEN! (They did a few other dumb incidental things too) Took away from an interesting true story.

Saturday enjoyed the wonderful "Godspell" at Cresson Lake (highly recommended).

Sunday into Pittsburgh to see the musical "The Great Gatsby." Ho-hum. Obviously super orchestra/singing/acting/dancing plus sets that knocked your socks off. It's just that it's not interesting as a stage production. Didn't really care about any of the characters. Still the opulent and massive sets with fireworks and bubbles and flashing lights made the trip worthwhile. I hope you had a great weekend!

There was a time when I hesitated to go to a "community theater" show for fear of being embarrassed for the amateur performers. THAT TIME IS LONG GONE.

I just saw a performance of "Godspell" at Cresson Lake Plyhouse. If I had to pick one word to describe this all-volunteer production, it would have to be PROFESSIONAL!

In my 60+ years of loving over 150 musical theater productions, I can honestly say, this was superb. The acting, dancing, singing, lighting and tech was all flawless. I saw the Broadway touring show of this musical and the Cresson Lake version was better!!!

These are young people with a love of theater giving their all to create something magical, Wow! Thank you to the cast and crew for a truly memorable night. The show ends on June 5, so there's still time to get your ticket. You will not be disappointed!

A salute to my Vietnam buddies, especially the 40,000+ who didn't make it home! That's just a fraction of the million plus patriots who died in all the wars our country has fought since its beginning 250 years ago. Everything we have is due to their bravery in the face of hideously brutal combat. To quote from the Mike Strank documentary: "Put me between the enemy and my country, and I will keep you safe."

One of the most meaningful experiences I ever had during my 50 years of producing videos was eleven years ago when we were permitted to enter Arlington National Cemetery before dawn.

We were producing a documentary about Sgt. Mike Strank, the man who led five other Marines in the raising of the US flag on Iwo Jima. Here is some of the footage we shot...

I see Idlewild Park is opening this weekend. What fun!! We enjoyed producing Idlewild's TV commercials for many years until the park was sold. Here are two spots from 2005 & 2006 which I wrote (and sang!) highlighting the new Loggin'Toboggan (05) and Captain Kidd's Adventure (06).

A lot had to come together for these spots: audition pro talent (in Pgh) and amateur local talent, make 40 lumberjack shirts, bring in cut pine trees to fill in the background, record a quartet from Somerset, get a pro music track done in NYC, hire a camera crane operator also from NYC and multiple days of shooting both spots. Whew! Take 60 seconds to see how it all worked...

I see Shade Gap is in the news again 60 years after the kidnapping of 17 year-old Peggy Ann Bradnick. It was national news that I recall seeing on WJAC-TV, with the lead reporter, Ron Stephenson getting detained by the FBI for being where he shouldn't be. In the end, the kidnapper and a FBI agent were dead, but she was freed.

I worked with Ron Stephenson many times. He was keenly aware that he had considerable power in the area, deciding what went on the air and what didn't. And at that time, almost everyone watched WJAC's News.
After he retired I played golf with him a few times ... still gruff and seemingly agitated about almost everything. Nonetheless, for his era, he was a tenacious, aggressive newsman. Here are two commercials I did with Ed Kane"s Kane & Co Advertising 44 years ago.

I see ABC just aired a special on the "Mystery of Richard Simmons." I worked with Richard many years ago. He was in town to shoot a PSA for the Red Cross. We met in the center courtyard of the Richland Mall; the photo shows him reading through my script.

He was the same guy in person as he was on TV ... full of zany enthusiasm and eager to share his fitness message. If you recall, there was a Cinnabon store near one of the mall's entrances, about 200 feet from where we were set to shoot. Richard saw a line at that store and ran down the hall yelling at the people that Cinnabon was not a good food choice!

He shot the spot like a true pro, then was off in a flash to his next appearance. We edited the spot and delivered it to the local Red Cross folks, but big shots at Red Cross HQ decided that the cross on the logo wasn't quite right, so the spot never aired!

Nonetheless, it's one of hundreds of great memories I have of my 50 years working with many wonderful people.

We had dinner at Kimmy's Restaurant in Mundys Corner Saturday evening. FYI Kimmy's is known for great breakfasts and lunches. Just recently they've offered "Kimmy's at Night" on Friday and Saturday nights till 8 PM.

What an elegant setting! Quiet atmosphere beautiful lighting (see the photo) and a great menu of steaks and seafood and more! The service was, as always at Kimmy's,, prompt and attentive and the food was delicious. I had a crab cake (reminded me of Surf & Turf's years ago) and mac and cheese with crab topping. Rebecca had an excellent broiled fish dish with broccoli. I can't wait to try one of their fresh-cut steaks.

While the outside of the building isn't impressive, you'll find that once inside, Kimmy's at Night does not disappoint. Dale
