Not how we wanted it to end but life is full of unexpected twists and turns. 2nd place still is something to be proud of though.

Grief is always accompanied by the loss of a loved one but there’s a kind of grief that doesn’t just show up when someone dies.

It lingers in the loud chaos of life, in the mornings you can’t find your spark, and in the heavy days that feel impossible to explain.

For me, depression has a kind of grief attached to it. Not just the loss of a person, but the loss of zeal I used to have for things...the loss of moments I wish I could have back… the loss of lightness before life got heavier.

There were seasons I thought I’d never climb out of. Days where getting out of bed felt like running a marathon. And sometimes even now, it sneaks back in. But I’ve learned not to treat it like an enemy anymore. It’s just a signal — a reminder that my heart has felt deeply, and that healing doesn’t mean “over it.”

Grief and depression both teach you to slow down, to sit in the quiet, and to find small glimpses of hope again — even if it’s just noticing that today hurts a little less than yesterday.

If you’re in that space right now, please know you’re not alone. You don’t have to “fix” yourself to be worthy of peace. Some days, surviving is the win. 🌿

I use to think that it wasn’t “date night” unless we cleaned up and we went somewhere. Nothing fancy, just out.

That idea has drastically changed. When you have the lifestyle that we do and as many kids and activities as we do, date night can be anywhere, doing anything, as long as it’s together.

It can even be feeding the horses and fixing a gate. Some of the best dates we’ve had have consisted of something along these lines followed by hours of talking in the truck or tractor.

We’ve also learned that date night is a MUST. Just time to connect, reset and come together. Check in with each other, see how each other is doing mentally and emotionally, spiritually and physically. We’re still not perfect at it and we may never be but each week we do something to connect, they just seem to go better:-)

Music has always been a big part of my life. I’ve forever had a large array of genres. My jam sessions in the car date back to my days in HS with my sister where we’d blare anything from worship music, to old country, to rap, to Christmas and everything in-between. A good rock song will always be among my favorites and when I found this artist today who jams to Disney songs…psh, best ever!!

We recently went to the temple with 4 of our 6 kids and it was such a cool experience! I wanted to share with those who might not know, one of the ordinances we perform in there.

The year a person is turning 12 and are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, they get the opportunity to meet with a bishop or leader and are asked a series of questions to see if they’re ready to go to the temple. If they are, they receive a recommend (or ticket per se) that says they’re recommended to enter the temple.

Once inside, they present their recommend and are then taken to the baptistery where they receive white clothing. They change and then wait to go where the font is.

Someone who is a priest in the Aaronic priesthood then performs a baptism by immersion, using the person as proxy, for someone who has died. It gives the deceased person the opportunity to accept or reject the baptism. Jesus taught in John 3:5 that “Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God”.

After the baptism is done, the person then changes back into their own clothing and goes to a separate room for what is called confirmations. The person sits as proxy again for the same deceased person, a man who holds the Melchizedek priesthood places his hands on the person’s head, and they are confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and are given the gift of the Holy Ghost.

There’s no way of knowing if the deceased person accepted or rejected this gift of baptism but we believe that everyone who has ever been on this earth should be given that opportunity, to choose for themselves. That’s why we put so much value on family history because we believe that through baptism we can live with God again. We also believe, through other ordinances we do in the temple that families can live together forever.

The blessings of the temple are exponential, not just in this life but in the life to come, and I’m so grateful for them in my life!

If you have any questions about the temple, I’d love to talk to you more about them! ❤️❤️

This is one of the most requested meals at my house. I use the instant pot on the weekly and this is one of the easiest and yummiest recipes you’ll ever make. What do you like to make in the instant pot? Message me if you’d like the actual recipe. 😋

Sometimes you just need to unplug and head for the hills.

We have a lot of hunting ahead of us the next few months so we decided to take a trip out west and do some scoping and siting in. The boys are getting the fever and I’m glad to be along for the ride.

Although I say living in a cold, dry desert is crazy, it sure has its own kinda beauty. ❤️❤️

Wow, talk about nostalgic!

As I watched my 13yo try on my wedding dress, i had quite a few emotions. One of them was sadness…I’m sad that I was so hard on the girl that wore this dress almost 20 years ago. I didn’t see her as skinny or attractive or grateful for her body and the children it would one day grow inside. I focused on all of her flaws instead of celebrating the wonderful gift that her body was. She was ashamed of parts of herself that she didn’t even want her new husband to see.

If I could go back, I would look in the mirror and tell myself that I am a freaking bombshell, that my body will go through changes, that my weight will go up and down, that it will birth 6 amazing children, that I chose to come to earth and receive this amazing gift and to love it, take care of it and be grateful for it.

It’s hard to love ourselves when all we see or focus on are our flaws. We are our own worst critics. I have to work everyday at focusing on the good qualities I have, my beauty - inside and out- and not being too hard on myself. Because ultimately, I’m trying to end the cycle of self doubt, self loathing and self deprecating thoughts. My daughter deserves better❤️❤️

“How do you do it and what curriculum do you use?”
These have always been the most asked questions I receive when I say that our family homeschools. Most people don’t realize the amount of resources that are available to homeschool families now. Especially post-COVID!
When we first started, I was so worried about “staying on track” and tried to public school at home. I learned quite quickly that that DIDN’T work for us. We also have always given our kids a choice as to whether they wanted to public school or home school. So we’ve done both more than once. And I still have two HS age public schoolers.
The second time we started homeschooling again is when things changed. I found these two books and still live by them. They invoked a couple beliefs in me that have been so freeing and have made for a much smoother home education day. Much less tears (from both me and the kids), no more set schedules, no more guilt and way more learning. Here’s a few things I’ve learned from these books…

- kids don’t need a set “curriculum” in order to learn. They don’t even need textbooks or classes if they don’t want.
- I don’t care if they’re not on “grade level” because I’m not trying to recreate public school. I’m trying to teach them different things that will make them responsible contributors and leaders in society. My kids will never take a placement test because they don’t need to.
- I’m teaching them HOW to learn and not WHAT to learn. When they WANT to learn something, they will do the things necessary to learn it because they know HOW.
- We can have a learning environment that envelopes people of all ages, not just their own age, which prepares them better for the workforce and/or to start their own business.
- They can start their own business at any age because they have the knowledge and the time to do so.
- We can educate our kids with “school” things like math, art, reading, etc. in everything we do, whether it’s baking cookies, sorting and folding laundry, paying a bill, mowing the lawn, taking care of baby chicks, changing a diaper…the list is endless!
- We are ALWAYS learning, even as adults and parents. Just because “school” has ended, doesn’t mean our education has to.

Along with these things I’ve learned, I’ve also learned that there are a number of programs in place to help families out with funding who choose to home educate. They’ve blessed our family in huge ways and make it possible for us to learn the way we want to learn and how we want to learn it.
If home educating is something you’ve thought of doing but not sure where to go for info, what resources to look at or just have questions in general…my inbox is ALWAYS open and I’m happy to share my own experience ❤️❤️
