Arise Community Credit Union is launching their fundraiser to finally open their doors in North Minneapolis as Minnesota’s first Black-led credit union. They chose to launch today, on the third anniversary of George Floyd’s senseless murder, to emphasize the important demands of the African American and Black community in Minnesota.
Arise aims to address and transform the economic realities that our neighbors face by building a credit union that serves anyone who lives, works, learns, worships, and volunteers in Hennepin and Ramsey counties. African American and Black empowerment is so deeply tied to the kind of economic freedom that Arise enables, and we’re so proud to have partnered with Arise and ABEP to share their important work through a launch video and GiveLively donation page to fundraise. The launch video features their CEO Dan Johnson’s voice to explain the critical need for accessible banking in banking deserts throughout the metro, and how that impacts racial equity.
