Your file looked perfect on screen. Cute. ๐Ÿ˜…

You hit send, and then the waiting starts. Youโ€™re hoping what shows up matches what you approved, because once it leaves your desk, your name is still on it.

So here, your file doesnโ€™t just go to a press. It goes to people.

Prepress catches the font that didnโ€™t embed and the 72 dpi image that was about to print blurry. Press operators pull sheets to make sure your brand color is your brand color, not its slightly sad cousin. By the time itโ€™s cut, folded and finished, ๐—บ๐˜‚๐—น๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜€ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฒ๐˜†๐—ฒ๐˜€ have been on it.

A PDF has never once caught its own mistake. Our people catch them for a living.

Which means the only surprise when you open the boxes is how good it looks. ๐Ÿงก

The step nobody puts in a brochure. ๐Ÿงก

Thatโ€™s Juando, jogging a stack before it goes under the cutter. Basically, he shakes every sheet into perfect alignment so the blade hits the exact same spot on sheet #1 and sheet #1,500.

Skip it or rush it and the trim drifts. A margin gets chewed up. A border goes crooked. The photo on your recipe card loses its edge. Nobody notices this step. They only notice when it goes wrong.

So why should you care?

Juando has been doing this for 30+ years. He can tell a stack is off before the machine does.

Earplugs in, hat on, hands on the paper. Thatโ€™s whoโ€™s handling your work.

The Pillars That Truly Hold the Place Up ๐Ÿ›๏ธโœจ

Our architectural pillars are not quite typical; concrete mixes with reused timber, bricks give way to stones, and art covers the walkways. Our interior looks nothing like a stereotypical corporate office; it was designed that way on purpose. Dik and Carmen created this place so that it would reflect the essence of who we really are: grounded in craftsmanship, respectful of character, and people-centered.

Our mismatched pillars are the pillars of our story. You do not create a legacy of 90+ years plus with cold perfection; you create a legacy with true texture:

๐Ÿซ‚Bolgerโ€™s People: The loyal operators, binders, planners, and problem solvers who come with dedication and pride every single day.

๐Ÿ—ž๏ธRespect for the Craft: Recognizing the solid foundations of the print world while moving towards modernization in space and technology.

๐ŸŽจA Creative Spirit: An environment built on art, warmth, and camaraderie of people who get to know each otherโ€™s names.

Presses, automation, and paper stocks are important, yet they are only the equipment in the room. It is the human pillars that keep it all up. ๐Ÿ’œ

Good Food, Good People, Zero Dropped Balls ๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿฅจ

Today was all about the smell of crockpot brats, sauerkraut, and constant laughs in our Como and Kasota breakrooms for Bolgertoberfest. These are the days that make 90+ years of family possible.

At the root of every perfectly printed sheet, complicated mailing job, or automated process is the people enjoying this food: Pressmen, Bindery Teams, IT Architects, and Account Managers who watch out for each other day in and day out.

As soon as we get together to eat lunch, tell some tales, and catch our breath, we're not just celebrating the fall. We're making sure that the trust and teamwork and camaraderie that will carry us back into the print shop once lunch is done.

Great work has always started with great people.

366 Years of Craft: Why Retention Protects Your Bottom Line โš™๏ธ๐ŸŽ‰

In an era of high turnover and transactional manufacturing, stability is not just a nice culture metric. It is your greatest operational defense. When print runs are complex, deadlines are tight, and brand standards leave zero margin for error. You need seasoned operators, office personnel, and everyone in between who know the role inside and out, anticipate friction before it occurs, and treat precision as second nature.

For our September milestones, we totaled the numbers across this single team: 366 combined years of institutional knowledge, technical mastery, and operational grit.

From dik marking 52 years to our newest teammates setting the standard at year two, that staying power is why enterprise brands trust Bolger to deliver without surprises.

Huge congratulations to our September all-stars:

Why the Coming Wave of New Talent Will Be Great For Your Supply Chain ๐ŸŽ“๐ŸŒฑ

This week, more than 2,000 Blue Devils came ready to learn and impress at the UW-Stout Polytechnic Career Conference. We traveled to Menomonie because the future of print manufacturing and technical design begins in places like that.

If you run an enterprise brand, marketing team, or any complex operation, this is what you need to know:

The new generation is entering manufacturing, packaging, and design with sustainability as an absolute prerequisite rather than a marketing pitch. They donโ€™t question whether operations can be clean, efficient, and sustainable. They question how quickly we can scale such solutions.

For our clients, this translates into savings and improved reputation directly.

When our industry has a pool of talented and innovative workers:

๐ŸŒณIt results in smarter workflows that reduce waste and eliminate unnecessary material and shipping expenses.

๐ŸŒณIt provides proactive environmental accountability that helps you comply with difficult ESG requirements without additional administrative efforts.

๐ŸŒณIt provides long-term operational stability created by a 90+ year family business investing in the next 10 years of problem solvers.

Thank you to UW-Stout, Career Services and everyone who came to challenge the old paradigms and push the boundaries further.

When the people creating your collateral are as passionate about the planet and processes as you are, everyone wins.

It is easy to assume the secret to business longevity is constant reinvention.

In reality, the companies that last decades usually master the opposite: knowing exactly what not to touch.

When our Account Executive Jessica Moss attended the MSPBJ Family-Owned Business Forum, the conversation among iconic Twin Cities leaders kept circling back to three quiet, foundational truths:

Guard your identity fiercely. When Dayna Frank, CEO of First Avenue & 7th Street Entry, was asked what will never change about their venue, she pointed straight to the painted stars on the exterior walls. Public trust lives in the things you refuse to compromise, even when everyone else is modernizing for modernizationโ€™s sake.

Pruning is how you grow. Aaron Meyerring of Electric Fetus shared how they let go of a wholesale business model to focus entirely on their storefront. You do not build an enduring brand by trying to be everything; you build it by being unmistakable at one thing.

Find people who treat the work personally. Jessica asked the room what makes non-family team members thrive in multi-generational companies. The answer was immediate: care. At the end of the day, no strategy or process replaces working with people who take quiet pride in the details.

Tools, formats, and technology evolve, but the core of an enduring organization remains the same: stand for something specific, do it exceptionally well, and build relationships that outlast a single transaction.

Which of these resonates most with how you lead your own team? Let us know in the comments, or connect directly with Jessica Moss to talk about what you are building.

The Future is Digital.

We hear it all the time.

Here's what we actually ๐˜ด๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ: The future isn't print or digital.

It's print + digital working together. Data creating relevance. Automation creating scale. Creativity making people care.

And human insight tying it all together.

A QR code linking to a personalized landing page.

Behavioral data informing your next mailing.

Workflows that trigger at exactly the right moment.

This isn't about choosing channels. It's about making channels work together.

That's the future we're building for our clients every day.

Why should you care that we dug up our parking lot? Honestly, you shouldn't.

Nobody scrolls Facebook to look at trenches, pipes, or asphalt.

What you do care about is what happens when underlying systems break down. You care about the bottlenecks stalling your campaigns, the manual workarounds eating up your week, and the budget wasted patching preventable problems that should have been solved at the root.

Marketing operations rarely stumble because of bad creative. They stumble because the plumbing is broken: disconnected teams, zero visibility, and disjointed handoffs.

That is why we built SmartQ.

It upgrades the hidden infrastructure of your marketing supply chain so your assets flow cleanly, your brand stays protected, and your team stops putting out fires.

Stop patching symptoms. Fix the foundation first.
