The Minnesota Newspaper Association (MNA) is the voluntary trade association of all general-interest newspapers in the State of Minnesota, acting on behalf of the newspaper press of the state, representing its members in the legislature and in court, managing local/regional/national newspaper advertising placement, operating a press release service, and working to enhance the quality of the state’

s newspapers. The Minnesota News Media Institute (MNI) is the nonprofit training arm of MNA. We provide a wide array of training and development opportunities to media professionals as well as scholarship and internship programs for students. We work to provide high quality, affordable training to MNA members and media professionals across the state.

Congratulations to the team at the Steele County Times, winners of the Mills Trophy for the second year in a row! The Mills Trophy recognizes the best weekly newspaper in Minnesota, as judged in the Minnesota Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest. The trophy is awarded on points for excellence in news, design and advertising categories. This year's contest was judged by the Iowa Newspaper Association.

Congratulations to Andrew Meuleners and Rachel Miller, the newest leaders of the Minnesota Newspaper Association and Minnesota News Media Institute. Meuleners, general manager of Herald Journal Publishing, Winsted, was elected treasurer on Friday at the 159th Annual MNA Convention. Miller, publisher of the Henderson Independent, was elected a director of the association.

Tara Brandl, co-owner of Above the Fold Publishing based in Tracy, Minnesota, and publisher of the Tracy Area Headlight Herald, is the new president of the Minnesota Newspaper Association. Brandl was elected president of the 250-member association of print and digital publishers at the organization’s annual meeting Friday, Jan. 30, during the 159th Annual MNA Convention & Trade Show.
