The public launch event for University of Minnesota Associate Professor Amy O'Connor's The Mine Next Door: Turning Points in Corporate Social Responsibility Communicative Practice takes place this week.

The event will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Minnesota Discovery Center in Chisolm, Minnesota. The book peels back the veneer of corporate public relations to expose the jagged edges that define the boundaries of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in Minnesota’s Iron Range. With five years of ethnographic and archival research, O’Connor was able to interview over 70 people, including miners, retired miners, community members, elected officials, and representatives from Cleveland-Cliffs Inc.

A story about the book aired on Duluth, Minnesota, television station WDIO's This Week in Mining on June 1. The Mesabi Tribune published a story on June 4 and another article is pending in the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

May is Mental Health Month and National Trauma Awareness Month. Both tie-in strongly to Sarah Dechamps's extraordinary story of navigating Caregiver PTSD.

Shortly after her daughter, Lily, was born, the infant was whisked into surgery to be treated for a rare disease. What Sarah didn't know at the time was that it would be the first of many surgeries her daughter would have to endure, and that she and her family would eventually come to be diagnosed with PTSD.

With Lily's permission, Sarah recently released a second memoir about her family's ordeal. She shared the story told in the book, "I Couldn't Tell You: The True Story of a Mother and Daughter's Journey to Overcome Their Mental Health Demons," on FOX 9 Good Day in Minneapolis the morning of May 13.
