Prom season is here, but high school students aren’t the only ones getting all dressed up for the occasion. Residents of Arietta Sarasota Senior Living held an Under the Sea-themed prom of their own the evening of May 22.

Residents got all dressed up for the occasion and danced the night away. Two media outlets covered the event. WFLA-TV Tampa (https://youtu.be/BXYAZhY2-aw?si=4a8ICwS-im-Rgp9t) aired a short video, and the Sarasota Observer newspaper published a story on the front page of the May 28 issue.

May is Mental Health Month and National Trauma Awareness Month. Both tie-in strongly to Sarah Dechamps's extraordinary story of navigating Caregiver PTSD.

Shortly after her daughter, Lily, was born, the infant was whisked into surgery to be treated for a rare disease. What Sarah didn't know at the time was that it would be the first of many surgeries her daughter would have to endure, and that she and her family would eventually come to be diagnosed with PTSD.

With Lily's permission, Sarah recently released a second memoir about her family's ordeal. She shared the story told in the book, "I Couldn't Tell You: The True Story of a Mother and Daughter's Journey to Overcome Their Mental Health Demons," on FOX 9 Good Day in Minneapolis the morning of May 13.

Congratulations to Howie Milstein on the launch of his latest book. "You Don't Know S**t: The Joy of Bewilderment" comes at the perfect time.... at a moment when political, cultural and personal divides are straining relationships across Minnesota and beyond.

In his book, Milstein, a former medical device exec turned executive coach and founder of The Institute to Stop Taking Yourself So Seriously, draws on decades of leadership experience to tackle one of the most urgent challenges of our time: how to coexist peacefully in an increasingly polarized world.

Rather than prescribing rigid frameworks, he invites readers to loosen their grip on the "I'm right, you're wrong" stance, and discusses how small shifts in perspective can open doors to more productive, respectful dialogue.

Continued fear and uncertainty, economic disruption and disbelief. These are just a few of the lingering effects of the federal immigration crackdown that happened in Minnesota in late 2025 and early 2026.

How they affect people dealing with the aftermath is captured in the new book, "Voices of Resilience," written by students at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul. Oleb Media officially launches the book on April 11.

The first week of April, writing professor and publisher Belo Cipriani and the book's editor, Stephanie Major, were interviewed on WCCO TV's Mid-Morning show.

Two Minneapolis TV stations covered the 100th birthday party for U.S. Army Veteran Orea Erickson on April 2nd. Both FOX 9 (https://youtu.be/WK-B_wPdRfg?si=YuAujy0GmVXMlaOZ) and KSTP Channel 5 (https://youtu.be/ZfFXSzk3RRo?si=V0GKvXEVH8ujr2zH) captured the fun at The Waters of Savage at Fen Pointe Senior Living in Savage, Minnesota, where Orea has lived for nearly 5 years.

In addition to a touching rendering of Happy Birthday, Orea was presented with a special gift from members of the Savage American Legion to honor his years of service.

Orea enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after the end of World War II. He was part of the United States contingent that led the Allies in the occupation and rehabilitation of the Japanese state. Erickson served in the 27th Infantry called the Wolfhounds, Regimental Headquarter in the S1 Division and did office duties as a Court Marshall Clerk.

Happy Birthday Orea!

Coated in Love’s annual 3000 Acts of Kindness event that benefits the Twin Cities’ homeless population happens every December, and this year the call is being put out earlier than ever before for donations.

Danielle Igbanugo, Executive Director, 3000 Acts of Kindness by Coated in Love, and Candis Johnson, a Coated in Love Board member, appeared on WCCO-TV / CBS Minneapolis (https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/video/how-you-can-help-people-stay-warm-by-helping-3000-acts-of-kindness/) the morning of April 1st.

They shared with anchors A.J. Hilton and Heather Brown what they are doing right now to get ready for the big event, and invited members of the community to participate by signing up through the nonprofit’s website: Coatedinlove.org

Last year, 2,997 people were served at the annual event. With all that's going on right now, that number of people in need is expected to grow dramatically by year's end.

“I Love to Read Day,” a time dedicated to promoting literacy and fostering a love of books, was celebrated in a meaningful way at St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Savage, Minnesota on March 13.

Seniors from The Waters of Savage at Fen Pointe spent part of the day reading to students in Kindergarten through 4th grade, and the Sun This Week newspaper published a story about the event. The seniors have been serving as reading buddies for students at the school since 2024.

Ice houses have already been removed from the lakes in southern Minnesota and melting is occurring, but that’s not stopping polar plungers from taking a dip to raise money for the National Alzheimer’s Association.

Two team members at The Waters on Mayowood Senior Living community in Rochester submerged themselves in tubs of water, and for 15 minutes allowed co-workers to pour buckets of ice water on them... all for a good cause.

The event kicked off the community's season of fundraising for The Alzheimer's Society. More than $500 was raised through ticket sales to residents, who placed their ticket in the jar in front of the person they thought would stay in the water the longest.

It ended up being a draw, so everyone who donated had the opportunity to get their name drawn for door prizes. Two of the news outlets in Rochester, Minnesota covered the event. Stories ran on KAAL TV and in the Rochester Post Bulletin newspaper.
