I've been doing some reflecting and I've noticed a recurring theme, whether it's in the pages of Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations" or in modern platforms like therapy and AA: the spotlight on mindfulness and the principle of controlling only your own actions.

Isn't it striking how wisdom from different corners of the world can converge at the same fundamental point? It's a universal nod toward the role of mistakes in our lives. None of us are exempt from errors, but what differentiates us is how we respond to those missteps.

The next time you find yourself in a situation that didn't go as planned, consider it an invitation—an opportunity to pause and reflect. It's not just about admitting fault; it's about seizing the moment to steer towards personal growth and fulfillment.

As I engage more consulting clients I am always working on how to encourage without sounding trite.

This article is spot on re: complimenting and acknowledging.

"Acknowledgements, on the other hand, go beneath the surface, are specific, and focus on the recipient exclusively. They do take more effort than casual compliments, but they’re way more powerful as a result. Acknowledgements build relationships by making the recipient feel understood and valued. For managers, giving this kind of focused appreciation helps everyone on your team identify their strengths and feel good about exercising them. The whole point of praise, after all, is to give actionable feedback."

There’s a difference between a “compliment” and an “acknowledgement,” and it sometimes comes down to a single word.
