What they don’t tell you about running a small business… especially while still working another job.
They don’t tell you that some of your biggest supporters will be people you just met, while some people you expected to support you may never show up.
They don’t tell you about the long days that turn into even longer nights. Working your regular job, coming home, answering messages, designing orders, handling customers, keeping up with paperwork, and trying to make sure everything gets done.
They don’t tell you how much of your business depends on things you can’t control. Vendors have their own schedules, shipping gets delayed, merchandise gets backordered, equipment has problems, and sometimes no matter how hard you work, things simply don’t happen as quickly as you want them to.
They definitely don’t tell you about the sacrifice.
There are days when you wonder if you can do it all. Days when you feel guilty because you’re trying to build something for your family while also feeling like building it is taking time away from your children. That’s probably one of the hardest parts.
And the salesman pitch? We’re terrible at it. 😂 We would rather be upfront and honest with you about pricing, merchandise, and deadlines than tell you what you want to hear just to make a sale. Sometimes that honesty may cost us business, but we would rather build our company on trust.
Owning a small business isn’t always the exciting posts, finished products, and happy customers you see on Facebook. Behind the scenes, there are mistakes, setbacks, late nights, sacrifices, learning experiences, and plenty of moments where you question whether you can keep doing it.
But then there are the people who continue to support us, recommend us, share our posts, place another order, give us patience when something doesn’t go according to plan, and remind us why we started.
We’re still learning. We’re still growing. We’re still working through the obstacles that come with building a business while balancing jobs, family, and life.
To everyone who has supported us, been patient with us, trusted us with an order, recommended us, or simply encouraged us — THANK YOU.
You have no idea how much it means to a small business and the family behind it. ❤️
We aren’t perfect, but we’ll always keep working to be better.
