Photography has been quiet since that late night in September when Helene showed up on my doorstep. Between the downed trees, the power outage, the clean up, the seemingly endless parade of post storm issues, a few things got put on hold.
At long last, things are getting back to a point a few images could be processed and published. I hope everyone got through these last few months with no severe setbacks. I realize on the doorstep of spring, these are autumn images. Hopefully no one will go through what we went through any time again.

I find irony in the images that sell the most, were never the primary focus of my photo expeditions. On an August evening I was on my way to a mountain lake to photograph the Milky Way reflection in its waters. As I was rolling along the Blue Ridge Parkway on my way to my destination, a quick glance in my rear view mirror presented Grandfather Mountain seemingly to blend with the sky and a setting sun. I made a quick three point turn, pulled over, grabbed my back up camera and fired off a few quick shots before the sun slipped behind the horizon. Later that night I captured the image intended at the start of the journey. While the Milky Way image has done well in my portfolio, this image with todays recent sale has become my best seller. The moral of the story? Keep your camera on the front seat. You never know what lies ahead, or even behind you.

Grandfather Mountain rises on the horizon above a roadside meadow with the last light of a North Carolina sunset.

Mingo Falls and a Midnight Moon:
In an effort to capture what the eyes really see, 5 total images are used. The first 4 images at the same exposure but at a higher aperture to avoid a starburst effect like in the previous submission also prevents a grainy image.
The moon itself is removed and another image of the moon with a short exposure to preserve the features is inserted.

Claire de Lune:
I dreamt of this vision since I move to Appalachia almost 2 decades ago. Two years ago it became a reality. This past week I returned to the scene with
a wider angle lense to recapture the vision. Worth every bruise cut and scrape climbing over wet boulders and mud after a recent rain.
White balance set at 3200K to capture the tint of the moonlight on the water.
