ChatGPT's local recommendations run on Bing's index. So do Copilot, Microsoft Edge, and every Windows desktop search. When someone asks ChatGPT for a plumber, an unclaimed Bing Places listing means you were never in the running.

The audience is worth a look, too.

• Bing carries about 7.5% of U.S. search traffic, per Statista.
• Over half its users have household income above $75,000, and more than three quarters are 35 or older. Homeowners who schedule HVAC service and pay for pest control.
• A 2023 WordStream analysis found Bing Ads converting at 2.94% versus 2.70% on Google.

When The Pest Rangers optimized Bing Places across six service areas, Bing traffic rose 5% within 30 days. For a nationwide environmental services client, the jump was over 38%.

Most of your competitors will never claim their listing. What would it take to be the one that did?

The full guide walks through seven optimization steps, including the categories and citations Bing weights more heavily than Google.

Increase local leads and online visibility by optimizing your Bing Places business account. Bing Places supports Copilot and Microsoft-powered systems.

Most service pages beg. "Call now." "Limited spots." "Don't wait." Customers feel the pressure and leave.

Jim Camp, the negotiation coach whose "Start with No" system shaped how FBI hostage negotiators work, built his method on one idea. People decide when they feel free to say no. Remove the pressure and the honest conversation starts.

Here is how that applies to your website and your sales calls.

• Give them permission to pass. "This may not be the right fit if you need same-day service." Saying who you are not for makes the right customer trust you faster.
• Kill the neediness. No countdown timers, no fake scarcity. Calm confidence reads as competence. Desperation reads as risk.
• Ask, do not tell. Lead with the question they are already asking. "What happens if this leaks again in January?" lets them picture the problem before you present the fix.
• Skip the close. Replace "Book now!" with "Here is what to expect. The decision is yours." Fewer clicks, more of the right ones.

None of this is soft. Camp's clients won harder deals by pushing less.

Which of your pages is trying hardest to close? That is the one to rewrite first.

Nearly half of consumers now ask an AI tool for local business recommendations, per BrightLocal. A year earlier it was 6%.

If a map pack position is still your whole local strategy, this is a fair moment to decide whether that is enough.

Here is what SOCi found across roughly 350,000 locations.

• Brands appeared in Google's local 3-pack 35.9% of the time.
• ChatGPT recommended 1.2% of those same locations. Gemini, 11%. Perplexity, 7.4%.
• Only about 45% of brands leading traditional local search showed up in AI recommendations at all.

More than half the businesses winning the map pack are invisible when a customer asks an AI instead.

The engines do not even read the same web. ChatGPT runs on Bing. Gemini on Google. Claude on Brave. Perplexity on its own crawler. A business can be everywhere in one and absent from the next.

What would it cost you if the customer who used to scroll the map pack now gets three names from a chatbot, and none of them is yours?

The new guide covers what each engine actually uses and where a hyperlocal business should start. Reading it is your call.

Learn why GEO and AI search now decide which local businesses get found, what ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity use, and where to focus first.

If your rankings held through August, feel free to scroll past this one.

Google's August spam update finished rolling out in under three days. SE Ranking then measured what it did across 100,000 keywords in 20 industries. The number that matters. 16.7% of URLs that sat in Google's top 10 dropped past position 100. In a normal July window, that figure was 9.2%. An 82% jump in sites falling off the map.

Volatility hit every industry tracked, from real estate to fashion. Google has not said which tactics it targeted.

Worth asking yourself, honestly.

• What on your site was built to please an algorithm instead of a customer?
• If a page vanished from Google tomorrow, would anyone notice besides you?
• How much of your lead flow depends on one channel behaving?

No one can promise immunity from the next update. The businesses that shrug these off are the ones that never gave Google a reason to look twice.

You are free to ignore this. Most business owners will.

Google confirmed Friday that for some searches, AI Overviews now expand automatically into a full answer. No "Show more" button. The traditional results get pushed further down the page, and an "Ask anything" box appears where the links used to be.

Google says the expansion occurs only where its systems determine it is most useful. It did not say how many searches that covers, or whether that number will grow. It will grow.

Two questions worth sitting with.

• How many of your customers scroll past a complete answer to find your link?
• If that answer already names three businesses, what would it take for yours to be one of them?

There is no fix that has to happen this week. But the businesses being named inside those expanded answers were built for it months ago.

GEO is not a replacement for SEO. It is a second lane, and local businesses now need both.

The short version. SEO helps your content get found in ranked results. GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) helps it get featured and cited inside AI answers on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI Overviews.

The goal changes, so the tactics shift.

• SEO wins clicks. GEO wins citations, where your brand gets named inside a synthesized answer.
• SEO targets keywords. GEO targets questions, with clear "how" and "why" language that helps AI detect intent.
• Both reward expertise signals. Cited sources, author credentials, and demonstrated local experience.
• GEO leans harder on freshness. AI systems prioritize updated, accurate content.

The overlap is the good news. Structured headings, direct answers, and real local expertise feed both lanes at once. If your local SEO foundation is solid, most of the GEO work is refinement, not reinvention.

The full guide breaks down how the two compare and how to structure local content that wins in both.

Your review replies are not just customer service. They are ranking data that Google and AI read to decide who gets recommended.

And as of this week, unprofessional replies can be reported and removed. Here is how to write replies that work for you.

• Respond within 48 hours. Fast replies signal an active business, and active businesses win visibility. Sooner is better.
• Name the service. "Glad the water heater replacement went smoothly" gives AI concrete data about what you do. "Thanks!" gives it nothing.
• Keep negative replies calm. Acknowledge the specific complaint, offer a fix, and take the details offline. The next customer reading is your real audience.
• Skip personal info and spin. Never share a customer's details in a reply, even to defend yourself. It breaks Google policy and is now reportable.

A year of good replies builds a public record of professionalism that both customers and AI systems trust. A single bad one can now be flagged.

When did you last read your own replies the way a stranger would?

Reddit accounted for 21% of all Google AI Overview citations and 24% of Perplexity citations in Q1 2026, per Tinuiti.

That makes a site most businesses ignore one of the loudest voices telling AI what to say about your industry, and about you.

Why AI trusts Reddit so much.

• Community consensus. Upvote ratios act as a proxy for accuracy. High sentiment reads as trustworthy.
• Lived experience. "I've used this software for 5 years" carries more weight with LLMs than any corporate claim.
• Longevity. Threads stay indexed and resurface for years, unlike posts that vanish from a feed in hours.

SE Ranking found domains with significant Reddit activity are roughly 4x more likely to be cited by ChatGPT than domains with minimal presence.

One warning before you jump in. Reddit punishes promotion. The approach that works is roughly 90% genuine value, 10% brand, with your affiliation disclosed up front. Done wrong, Reddit hurts your business more than staying off it.

The full guide covers seven ways to build trust on Reddit without getting buried or banned, plus the five KPIs that actually measure it.

Successful Reddit marketing builds brand trust among high-intent customers and feeds trust signals on Google and LLMs. Here are 7 tips to get started.

Your replies to Google reviews can now be reported. Here is why that matters for your business.

Google quietly added a "Report owner response" option to reviews on Business Profiles and local listings. Anyone can now flag an owner reply that is off-topic, contains profanity, is harassing, discriminatory, hateful, or shares personal information.

What this means in practice.

• That heated reply to an unfair one-star review is no longer just a bad look. It is reportable content that can be removed.
• Sharing a customer's details in a reply, even to defend yourself, can get flagged for personal information.
• Competitors and unhappy customers now have a formal tool to police your tone.

The defensive move is simple. Keep every reply professional, name the service, acknowledge real complaints, and move disputes offline. That was already the right play for customers and for the AI systems reading your replies as data. Now there is enforcement behind it.

Audit your last ten review replies this week. Would any of them survive a report?

Google has a new reporting option for reviews in Google Business Profiles and Google Local. This one is called "Report owner response." It lets you tell Google if an owner response to a review is off-topic, contains profanity, is harassing, discriminatory, hateful, or includes personal information.

AI shoppers convert at twice the rate of Google visitors. Google still sends more traffic than every AI platform combined.

Both of those are true, per new Shopify data released last week.

The numbers worth knowing.

• AI-referred sessions to merchant storefronts grew 197% year over year.
• AI-referred shoppers converted at roughly twice the rate of organic visitors in research-heavy categories.
• Organic search traffic still grew 12% and remains the largest referral source for merchants.

The takeaway is not "AI is replacing search." It is that the two channels do different jobs. Search still delivers the volume. AI delivers pre-sold buyers who did their research inside the chat and arrived ready to purchase.

That second group is small today and compounding fast. The businesses winning both channels are not choosing between SEO and AI visibility. They are building for both with the same structured, citable content.

Source, Search Engine Land: https://searchengineland.com/shopify-ai-referrals-up-organic-search-leads-traffic-484962

New Shopify data shows AI drives higher-converting, first-time buyers, but Google still delivers the biggest share of merchant traffic.
