Chester Area Public Water Signup

I called the City of Mountainburg this morning and verified that there is currently 345 tap applications! That is good news and they are starting to work on getting the funding. The next city meeting to discuss the status of the project is scheduled for February 1, 2022. Keep spreading the word so that we can get everyone signed up while the tap fee is $100. Give the City of Mountainburg a call if you have any questions. They have the applications and are happy to help get you signed up. Their phone number is 479-369-2791.

Great news, we are still short on the needed signups but the time to sign up has been extended into early next year! I know there are a lot of people who are hesitant to sign up because they have lost money with past proposed water projects. The City of Mountainburg has said that all tap money will go into a separate account and if this project doesn’t go through, the city will refund everyone’s money.

We are almost there. Please see the map I posted previously for more detail or call the City of Mountainburg to see if you’re included.

If you’ve been on the fence about signing up, now is the time to do it. Don’t wait to apply! Call or drop by city hall and get signed up!!

Mayor Susan has told us that all tap money will go into a separate account and if this project doesn’t go through, the city will refund everyone’s money.

I believe this project will go through. Why? Because there will be a benefit to us, the residents of Chester area (see map I posted for more detail or call the city to see if you’re included), and to the City of Mountainburg. I attended a Mountainburg City council meeting in the spring. The council members were going to vote on whether they would allow an extension on the sign up time. I could tell that several members were leaning toward ending it. THEN…an engineer gave a presentation to them and talked about the aging pump stations in their current city water system. He said that they were nearing their life expectancy. If our water project goes through, they will be able to get them replaced. Every council member approved the extension!!!

My point is that it is a win, win situation for everyone if this project goes through. We get clean, safe water and the city gets parts of their system replaced.

Time is ticking…the deadline for
signing up for a water tap is October 1st! If we don’t have the 400 signups, then they may cancel the project. Sign up please, I’m tired of hauling water and would love to
see an end in sight! I’m sure you feel the same way.

Please share this with anyone who may be interested. We need more people to sign up so that we can get city water vs. having to haul water or depend upon a well!! The City sent out letters to everyone but they were using a list from several years ago. Check with your neighbors to see if they know about this!!’

The City of Mountainburg is working on a public water project that will add the Chester community area to the public water system. There will be a meeting on October 1st at 6pm at the Mountainburg City Hall. They are requiring 400 sign ups for a water meter to go forward with the project. They currently have 320 sign ups. The cost right now is a $100 per tap. Once the project is approved, funding is obtained from governmental and state sources, they will begin installing the water lines. Once they get to your install, you will be required to pay a $150 deposit and the minimum water bill will be $45-$50/month. If you don’t sign up now and wait until they begin running water lines, a tap will cost $2500.
