What happens when a designer joins an all-women’s adventure retreat in Yellowstone? A brand concept inspired by real moments, and not one solely based on a mood board.

Last year in May, I joined an all-women’s adventure group on a trip to Yellowstone National Park. 🦬 I thought it would simply be a chance to disconnect, recharge, and soak in some beautiful views. Instead, it became one of the most uplifting experiences I’ve had — full of easy conversation, shared laughter, and the kind of connection that happens naturally when you’re surrounded by women who love nature as much as you do.

Those moments became the inspiration behind TrailKind.

A passion project inspired by sisterhood, nature, and the kind of camaraderie that makes you feel seen, grounded, and supported.

I pulled visual elements from the environment that shaped the experience — mountains, rivers, sunlight, earthy tones, worn textures, and a mix of strength + softness.

The identity is meant to feel warm, grounded, and adventurous. Something that celebrates women who like to hike, explore, and grow through shared steps. 🥾

This project reminded me why I love branding in the first place:the best brands come from real stories and lived moments — a reminder that inspiration usually shows up when you step away from the desk and into the world.

🎮 Loud, funny, and full of energy — that’s Don Charlieee (yes, with three e’s included). The only thing missing? A brand big enough to match his personality.

As an avid Twitch streamer known for his humor and high energy, Don’s streams already carried entertainment value. What was missing was a clear visual identity to amplify that personality across every touchpoint: Twitch overlays, social content, merchandise, and beyond.

CHALLENGE
There was no existing brand system in place. The challenge was to:

➭ Build a visual identity from the ground up
➭ Create a look that reflects Don’s charisma and playful energy
➭ Design assets that adapt seamlessly across Twitch, digital platforms, and merchandise
➭ Ensure the visuals felt as memorable as his personality

APPROACH
A system was crafted around confidence, color, and Don’s personality:

➭ A mascot logo with sunglasses, a mustache, and a rockin’-hand gesture became the perfect reflection of Don’s on-stream personality
➭ A vibrant palette of purple, yellow, and blue injected energy and visibility
➭ Supporting elements like gradients, icons, and mascot expressions kept the brand flexible but cohesive

⚡️ The result is a bold, playful identity that’s instantly recognizable, designed to grow with Don’s community, and just as fun and unforgettable as his streams.

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when a brand designer finally designs for herself—this is it 👇

I built my new updated site for two reasons:
1) to practice designing in Framer (so I can eventually offer website design as a service)
2) because my old one needed a hike off into the sunset 🌄

Let’s talk passion projects!

They’re the ideas that keep pulling at your curiosity while you’re knee-deep in client work . . . and sometimes, when there’s no client work at all, they’re how you create the kind of work you want to be hired for.

Passion projects aren’t just great for creative exploration. They’re a chance to see what sparks your interest, push your style, and build the kind of portfolio that attracts your dream clients.

For me, that became Moonwake—a mysterious, late-night cocktail bar inspired by New Orleans, moonlight, and a little bit of magic. 🍸🌙

No briefs, no feedback loops. Just a brand driven by mood, texture, and the need to set something wild and untamed free (cue the wolf).

The exciting part? I got so far into this project that I kept asking myself ‘what if’ because I can totally see this cocktail bar existing in real life!

So, if work’s been quiet or you’ve been sitting on an idea for a while, take this as your sign to start. Whatever you do, don’t stop creating because you never know who might stumble across your work and find that your design style is exactly the kind they’ve been searching for.

Just a logo? Or a full brand identity? 👀

There’s a big difference — and if you’ve ever tried cramming one logo into every single touchpoint, you know the struggle is real.

A full brand identity gives your business the flexibility to show up consistent everywhere — from your social media profile pics, to your website header, and to your product packaging. 💻📦📱

Because your brand deserves more than a one-size-fits-all logo. It deserves trust, recognition, and a system that actually works. 🤗

Thinking about hiring a brand designer soon? 🎨

I get it — branding is exciting! You’re ready to bring your vision to life, and you just want to get started. But before you reach out to a designer, let’s make sure you’ve got the basics on your end covered in order to have a successful project outcome.

This will include things like:

📝 Defining your brand goals and measurable outcomes.

👥 Knowing who your target audience is, and how your product/service will make their lives better.

🥊 Researching your competitors, and documenting their strengths and weaknesses within the market (and how your business compares against them).

🔍 Auditing your current brand (if you have one) and being honest with yourself about what’s working vs what’s not.

Overall, these steps aren’t just busywork — they help to make the design process smoother, faster, and way more effective.

Covering these basics beforehand will also lead to a more productive first meeting between you and the designer.

So, have you done the groundwork yet? If not, no worries — I’m here to help! 😉 Use the link in my bio to schedule a FREE 30-minute discovery call where we’ll discuss your business, goals, and services that best support your needs.

The challenge for Pioneer Construction was to help this brand stand out in a saturated market and ensure that when homeowners needed a new roof or repairs, Pioneer Construction was the first name that came to mind.

Incorporating a house into the letterforms brings a personal touch to the logo, making it unique and distinct enough from competitors in the Colorado Springs area. 🏠

This was such a fun project to work on, and it’s incredible to see the growth they’ve experienced recently.

Designing a logo is a process, and it's only part of the journey. There's a lot that happens before my pencil even touches paper, from discovery and strategy sessions with the client.

Only then can I begin the design phase, building on those foundational insights.

So here's a logo spotlight for Pioneer Construction, showing you my process and the final result. ☺️

Pioneer Construction Branding Reveal 🤩

Firstly, what an amazing accomplishment to see this company currently thriving in their market!

Based in Colorado Springs, Pioneer Construction was founded by Noah, a roofing inspector with over 20 years of experience. Before starting his business, he noticed a gap in quality, honesty, and clear communication within the industry he had worked for.

Determined to bring more transparency and become the best affordable roofer for homeowners in the region, Noah launched Pioneer Construction to fill that gap and build trust.

When Noah approached New Venture Design to help with branding, the challenge was to create a style that would stand out in a competitive market while staying true to his mission. The result? A modern and approachable brand that focuses on the importance of a home. The logo features a hidden home within the wordmark, symbolizing protection and trust — everything Pioneer Construction stands for. The typeface was customized to reflect the foundational strength of a home, while the teal and gold palette brought a sense of honestly, clarity, and professionalism.

What do you think of the branding? Would love to hear your thoughts! ☺️
