Seven years ago, on a road trip back home to Washington, D.C. from Murrells Inlet,I came up with the name “Bling Around the Toesies.” ✨
When I got home, I excitedly went to secure the website… only to discover that blingaroundthetoesies.com was already owned by someone in Las Vegas.
The website wasn’t active, but every single year I would check to see if the domain had expired and whether it had been renewed. About a year and a half after starting my business, I decided to trademark Bling Around the Toesies
What many people don’t know is that I did the entire trademark process myself. I didn’t hire an attorney. There were moments when I almost gave up because it was incredibly difficult and overwhelming, but I was determined to protect something I had worked so hard to build.
Even though someone else owned the domain, no one could legally use my business name to sell toe rings or foot jewelry.
Still, someone else owned that little piece of what had become such a huge part of my life. That website was always in the back of my mind.
I continued to build.
I created blingyourtoes.com, traveled to events, fitted thousands of toe rings, met incredible customers, and grew a business that has brought me so much joy and success over the last seven years.
And like most small business journeys, there were setbacks too. About two years ago, my Facebook business page was hacked, and despite every effort to recover it, I lost access to the page I had spent years building. That page is still out there somewhere, but the community and connections I had worked so hard to create had to be rebuilt from scratch.
It was discouraging. But I kept going.
Last week, I received an email from GoDaddy letting me know that the original domain had finally expired and was headed to auction.
And Today… I won. ❤️
I can’t fully explain why this feels so significant, but it does. For years, there was always this tiny part of me that knew someone else owned a piece of something that for all intents and purposes was mine. This business represents countless hours, hard work, creativity, risks, and dreams. It has been built with blood, sweat, determination, and a whole lot of smiles. Many times, when others were enjoying their weekends or their time off, I was at a festival, or re-ordering my stock, keeping books, organizing inventory to build this little, or not so little dream I’ve had.
And now, it finally feels complete.
So, in honor of this milestone, I’m embracing it as the beginning of a new chapter.
 I haven’t put much focus or attention onto my website because it’s really hard to order toe rings online because no one knows their size. But now, over the coming weeks and months, I’ll be expanding my online presence. While custom-fitted toe rings will always be the heart of what I do, I’ll also be adding pieces that are easier to order online, including finger rings, thumb rings, anklets, and other beautiful accessories.
And who knows… maybe one day even a footwear line. 👣✨
To everyone who has supported Bling Around the Toesies over the years—whether you’ve purchased a ring, visited me at an event, shared my posts, followed my new page after I lost the old one, or encouraged me along the way—thank you. You have helped turn an idea from a road trip into something far bigger than I ever imagined.
This little business has taught me that setbacks don’t have to be the end of the story. Sometimes they become part of the reason you appreciate the victories even more.
