A response I gave this morning to a newsletter I follow.
I have created products and run e-commerce websites for myself for over 30 years. I have books, clip art, PDFs, courses. all kinds of things. It has been very up and very down but has continually produced something almost every day. I have a wide variety of products, which is what I believe you should have. Some are in today and out tomorrow. A key moment for me in developing my products was when I realized that my products were my main client. I am a graphic designer and had lots of different clients. But my own products were together bigger than any of my regular client's projects.
What this meant was that it was ok to work on my own projects, just like I work on other people's projects during the day. Most of my products were worked in the evenings or weekends. Move their priority to the front and build them up. My products brought in twice what I did from client work. 10 years ago I retired, moved away from active client design, but kept my products going. 10 years and they are still selling. The key is, to create and sell anything you can think up and move it to the front of your efforts.
