You’re Not Coca-Cola So Why Are You Advertising Like Them?
The first thing I learned when I stepped foot in business school was Coca-Cola’s advertising strategy.
Their strategy is so important to the advertising world that it is a must-know for business school graduates.
I thought," I’m set!... learning from the greats! When I start my own business, I’ll use these lessons and get rich."
So when I opened my own business, I thought it was time to apply all the lessons I learned from Coca-Cola and use them in my own advertising strategy.
But then reality hit me hard. It was like being dipped in ice water.
Instead of getting filthy rich, I lost an ungodly amount of money trying to advertise like them.
I felt discouraged.
But I decided to retrace my steps and find out what I was doing wrong.
As I reflected on my mistakes, it became clear that Coke’s marketing genius is built on a powerful brand and an empire of loyal followers.
All they need to do is recruit more Cola believers. Simple.
While I, an everyday 'Joe Schmo,' was trying to figure out how to make enough money to eat next month.
Clearly, I was playing the wrong game.
Something needed to change…. But what?
That’s when I realized I had one last viable option. It was in my face all this time!
It was the obvious b-line that had to be made:
‘Direct, Sales-Driven Marketing’
After discovering this, everything in my business changed.
I had bread on tap and the market was marketing, if you know what I mean.
*Wink face*
Now, let me tell you exactly how you can do the same.
If you’re a small business and your marketing is not focused on getting immediate money in your pocket, then you’re doing something wrong.
The #1 rule of running a small business is to keep the cash flowing.
You need to ensure that every ad, article, flyer, or yard sign you put out has a single clear goal: driving immediate action—whether that’s getting your phone ringing, booking appointments, or securing sales.
Catchy buzzwords won’t cut it!
Only direct, sales-driven marketing will grow a small business.
