We’re past thinking of progress in quantity of work hours. As business owners, we are not machines and we can’t measure solely on output. We also have to be visionaries - what’s going to bring this business forward to the next step… to the ultimate *goal*.
If you’re flustered when you sit down to work, think about the one thing you can do that aligns with your brand’s purpose. That’s how you strive for quality over quantity when we’re all pressured to be “productive”.

Yesterday's email, we talked all about how to prioritize tasks and listen to the people who will help move the needle forward.

Basically, learn from people doing the thing you ultimately want to do.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The rest you can revisit later. But you don't have to do all the things --learn Showit/Squarespace/Shopify, brand strategy, IG marketing, workshops, etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Think about the business you want to build first before you listen to everyone out there making decent money. Luckily, there's plenty of it to go around and it's better we take intentional paths there.

One day. What if that was all you needed?

In the beginning, I was spending months on what should've been a simple logo, color palette, and typography. It took forever to finish and I was miserable.

The problems I encountered:
- No contract - everything was by email
- No managed expectations - the client practically drew the logo for me
- No boundaries - I was working nights and weekends to get something done to make up for lost time
- Stressful payment terms - I didn't get paid until the project was finished

Did I call it quits? Luckily, no. One thing I realized early on was that if I was going to be a service-based business owner, things like this would fall on me. This was MY responsibility and I had to fix it.

So, since then, I wrote down the stressful points of a project and other mistakes I made and fixed them for the next project until I got into a groove I was happy with.

Today, I have a smooth workflow that keeps me working ideal hours and my clients are thrilled. At the end of the day, it’s about the client’s experience and how easy you made it for them to work with you.

Sometimes we’re promised things can happen quickly. But there’s still a lot of value in working hard and “paying your dues” with design experience (or any other skill).

It’s not a bad idea to stop and wonder why clients should pay you these prices. Do you have the strategy, processes, and proof to back that up? And if you do, how can you continuously improve?

It’s that DEDICATION to your craft that’s going to speak to the value of your work. And once you know it and can see it, it will be so much easier to communicate that to others 😘

I know your visual branding is a direct reflection of your work, but if you have clear guidelines, your marketing material shouldn’t take too long. This month I’ll be focusing on onboarding to save you time. And the reality? Your proposals should just be the cherry on top because your discovery calls are doing the heavy lifting. What value are you providing? Are you really trying to serve your client? Is your strategy CLEAR? Is your process convincing?

The proposal is a reiteration of what you’ve discussed on your call. But it shouldn’t be educational material.

Watch your time and make sure you’re spending it wisely: connecting and serving!

If you run a business, what's your official title? Often times as solopreneurs, many tend to just say "designer" or whatever role to play. Which is true because that's what you do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
