US-based employers announced 71,321 layoffs in November.

Last month marked the third time since 2008 that layoffs in November exceeded 70,000, with the other two times being in 2008 and 2022.

US employers have announced more than 1,170,800 layoffs as of November, up 54% from the same period in 2024, when 761,358 cuts were announced. It’s the highest level since 2020, when 2,227,700 cuts were announced through November.

It's a tough job market for sure.

I wasn’t going to post this.

But in September, I quietly hit 8 years in business.

8 years since I launched Career Brand Story.
8 years since I bet on myself.
8 years since I decided to help people thrive in their careers and do what they love.

In the first 18 months, I went from $0 to $150K.
No safety net.
No second income.
Three little kids depending on me.

Over time, I helped 3,000+ people navigate career transitions.
Crossed $1M in total revenue.
Built something from nothing.

It should feel like success.
But lately… it hasn’t.

The last 18 months have been some of the hardest of my professional life.

I tried to scale, right when the pandemic hit.
And it backfired.

I hired a team because I wanted to take care of people.
But the numbers didn’t work.
I took out a business loan.
I’m still paying it off.

I picked up talent acquisition contracts just to breathe again.
I even Ubered on some nights -
just to make sure the kids had dinner.

Revenue? Down 56% from last year.

AI shifted everything.
The job market crashed.
And LinkedIn, let’s be honest…
The new Service Provider experience hasn’t exactly helped small business owners like me.

Someone once told me:
“You are exactly where you are today because of what you created.”

And that hit me.

Because somewhere along the way,
I got comfortable.

I stopped hustling like I did in the beginning—
those wild nights writing resume and my 14-year-old son Luke Tudor ran marketing,
my mom did the books,
and my dad woke up in the middle of the night
to send proposals so we could be first in the client’s inbox.

It was messy.
It was a family affair.
It was magic.

So here’s where I am now:

✅ Taking on only past clients and referrals for the rest of the year.
✅ Leaning into my current role with some exciting projects ahead.
✅ Giving myself permission - after 8 years - to rest.

But 2026?
That’s my rebuild year.

I’m rethinking everything.
Listening harder than ever to the clients who keep coming back.
And building from what I’ve learned - especially from failure.

Because here’s the truth:
We don’t talk enough about failure.

Our best successes come from our greatest failures.

About ten years ago, I was sitting in church when this song opened the service.
This morning, it came back to me — loud and clear.

I’m tired of being tired.
But even in my emptiness, I rise and declare:

A winning battle over scarcity.

A winning battle over depression.

A winning battle over loneliness.

A winning battle over anxiety.

A winning battle over mental illness.

A winning battle over discouragement.

A winning battle for my family.

A warrior is awakening.

Heaven’s armies go before me.

“You should increase your prices.”

“Add a zero to every package.”

“If they complain, they’re not your client.”

I’ve heard these lines from multiple business coaches over the years.

You’re going to get rejected.

You'll apply to 100 jobs—maybe less.

But it happens.

In 2019 we had one of the hottest job markets. I'd see clients have three interviews and walk out with three offers.

It was a different job economy.

Now, it feels like rejection, ghosting, and fake job postings dominate.

It’s natural to be upset when you encounter any one of those things.

It’s going to happen.

But…

It doesn't change how you impact your industry with your ideas.

It doesn't change your values.

You have a unique approach to solving problems.

You have marketable skills that someone is looking for.

Point is:

Job economy goes up and down. You can't change it.

BUT

You can take control of your career narrative and how you position yourself in the job market.

You can decide what the next right job is for you.

You can decide how you are going to solve the problems future employers have.

I See You

I walked into a large room filled with people.

Someone asked if I’d like coffee. I hate coffee. Always have.

If they would only see me, they’d know.

I started sharing an anecdote from yesterday.

One glanced at their phone. Another turned to someone else with a different question.

My words drifted into the room, unfinished.

If they would truly see me, they might have caught them—given them meaning.

I sat in a big empty room.

Someone said, "You look like a lonely person waiting for the bus."

"Oh," I replied. "I just finished talking to my son. I'm going to miss him so much." I wanted to cry.

If they would really see me, they’d know.

I stood in his room and wept.

But no one sees me.

So I cry alone.
