I began my Guatemalan embroidery studies at “La Magia del Bordado” school by Carlina Villegas in 2016 in Cartago, Costa Rica. With the support of Professor Carlina, I officially start the painting with wools course by Patricia Murphy in 2023 in Pennsylvania, United States.

This course seeks to promote the art of Guatemalan embroidery and continue the tradition of Mrs. Julia Riépele de Cabrera, a pioneer of this technique.

As described by Professor Carlina, this embroidery technique has a combination of wool and paint, where you can appreciate the richness of the color, the exquisite dexterity in the combination of colors that makes the work look more like it was painted with a brush, than by the careful interweaving of the wool.

In these works, the culture, color and traditions inherited from the local indigenous people of Mayan descent are highlighted. It also adapts the cultural essence of other countries such as Mexico, Peru and Costa Rica, which somehow received part of that inheritance.

We invite all women to contribute to enriching the culture of art.
