I’ve been posting more of my designs on Instagram, but I really need to keep Facebook up to date. Here are some I may have never posted. A few were not chosen by the customer but I liked them anyway so I’m posting them.

Please stop with all the AI/ChatGTP crap. It’s not impressive. Your friend’s mother’s niece is not suddenly a designer by using AI. All of a sudden everyone thinks they are a designer. YOU’RE NOT. That includes the sign shops using it that without it, couldn’t design something if their life depended on it. AI steals from real artists/designers and puts together a stale, carbon-copy, crappy image full of mistakes and inefficient layout. AI gives you files that are not usable by real professional sign/graphics shops. It’s practically unusable even if it looks great on your phone.

It’s becoming a real pain in the ass and really hurting the graphics industry along with other industries. I know respectable artists who have actually given up designing because of it. I’m getting customers coming to me a few times a week with AI designs. Don’t bring it to me. I’m not touching it. I’m not that kind of shop.

I think this article from last year sums up how important storefronts are. Nice for the local businesses to be featured as well.

SignCraft first featured Jason Nale and his work in the May/June 2020 issue. Since then he’s moved to a slightly larger shop, just around the corner from his old shop—though not for the purpose of expansion. At 600sq. ft., it’s still relatively small. But since he works alone, the space works ...

I think I’ve stayed silent long enough. As someone who actually cared about how my hometown’s business district looks, I’ve pretty much given up on trying to make my hometown beautiful through signage and storefront graphics. Truthfully, I’m heartbroken. I see new signage going up in my town that is absolutely embarrassing. I’m embarrassed for the business and I’m embarrassed for the sign company they hired. These socalled “sign shops” do not even know the basic fundamentals of sign design and should be ashamed of producing such terrible work. They are making potentially beautiful store fronts look not only awful but unprofessional. Storefronts that were once beautiful and destroying them and no one seems to care. My God, use the building as your guide. Colors, architecture, shapes, surroundings, all need to be taken into consideration when designing a storefront. It’s not just slapping a meaningless mess of letters and an extremely useless design of a logo onto a metal panel and hanging it. Window graphics that have no purpose. Awful scrollwork with no knowlege of how to incorporare scrollwork into a design effectively. Just sh*tty clipart used because those “sign” shop’s designers do not have an artistic bone in their body. And for the business approving the shotty design work, what is wrong with you?

Please, please hire a professional. Even if it’s not me, get someone who not only knows what they are doing, but cares about how your business image looks. If you feel you are providing a top notch service or product, don’t you want your image to portray that same high end quality? I guess not.

A recent article in SignCraft magazine featuring some signs I made for a local business. It features some local businesses too.

Seeing the finished product can give you an idea for a layout or color combination, but there’s more to the story with most any sign—the choices of typefaces, materials and finishes, the production methods and how it was installed. designed and produced. These three signs were designed, produced...
