Paracas National Reserve is a popular nature reserve and beach destination on the southern coast of Peru. The reserve is home to many species of wildlife, particularly birds, whom are largely concentrated at the water’s edge. The sea cliffs that fringe the beaches provide home to thousands of these. A trip to Paracas is not complete without a visit to scenic Playa Roja or Red Beach named after the rend sand of volcanic origin.

Étretat is a small coastal village in France best known for its cliffs, including a famous natural arch. The spectacular sea cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted famous artists including Gustave Courbet and Claude Monet. The pebbled beach, sparked with quartz geodes, is wrapped in dramatic cliffs eroded into giant formations and offshore needles. Two of the arches can be seen from the town, a third requires a walk at low tide.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the biggest and best-known parks in India. Located in the Sawai Madhopur district of south-eastern Rajasthan, this national park is famous for its royal Bengal tigers. It’s one of the only parks in the region where you can spot these big cats in their natural habitat. The best sightings are between November and May.

But it’s not just tigers you’ll see here: Indian leopards, sloth bears, striped hyenas, and other interesting wildlife also call the park home. When you aren’t wildlife watching, there are ancient ruins to be found scattered about the park, including a historic fortress overlooking the jungle. From its vantage point high above the treetops, you can spot serpent eagles and vultures at eye level.

Dingli Cliffs, found on the west coast of Malta, are the highest point in the Maltese islands. Though only 250 meters (830 feet) high, the cliffs are best viewed from a boat, but those who climb up to the cliffs will be rewarded with stunning vistas of the surrounding area; sunset is a particularly good time to see the cliffs. They’ll also find a small chapel dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene on the cliff’s edge.

Plitvice National Best National Parks in the World

Croatia’s extraordinary Plitvice National Park is home to some of the most beautiful attractions in Europe. A total of 16 interlaced lakes and forests are found within the park, spread across two sections of 12 upper lakes and four lower lakes. Depending on the angle of the sun and the minerals within the water, the lakes change from blue to green and everything in between.

Take your time tracing the hiking trails alongside the lakes and within the forests. Keep an eye out for wildlife, such as European brown bears, wolves, wild cats, and capercaillie. Bird watchers will be in paradise here with over 126 species of birds recorded in the park, including the large and unusual game bird known as a capercaillie.

Lalibela Churches

Lalibela is one of Ethiopia’s holiest cities, second only to Aksum, and is a center of pilgrimage for much of the country. This rural town is known around the world for its monolithic churches which play an important part in the history of rock-cut architecture.

Though the dating of the churches is not well established, most are thought to have been built during the 12th and 13th centuries by a medieval Ethiopian civilization. The Church of St. George is the most well known and last built of the eleven churches. The dimensions of the complex are 25 meters by 25 meters by 30 meters (82x82x98 ft), and there is a small baptismal pool outside the church, which stands in an artificial trench.

Visitors to the cliffs at Skansbukta, Svalbard will have a chance to revisit history while enjoying looking at the barren cliffs, which stand out from a lush landscape. The area was once home to a gypsum mine, with artifacts from that era found on the beach; a trapper’s cabin also is located here. Because of the danger from falling rock, visitors are advised not to try and climb the cliff from the beach side. A journey over the water is the best way to reach here.
