Tonight, I upset someone while driving. They followed me to the gas station and confronted me. I was unsure of my mistake. I asked if they were okay and if there was anything I could do to help. They walked away, and I wished them a good day. This wouldn't have been my usual response, but as I've grown older, I've committed myself to "Seek to Understand." There was something deeper bothering them; my driving couldn't have caused such anger. 45 minutes later, I found this note on my truck in the school parking lot. You never know what someone is going through. Seek to understand.

Today, I went out for lunch and noticed an elderly lady approaching from a distance. I paused to hold the door for her, and she expressed gratitude warmly.She then informed the waitress, "table for one," so I waited and hesitated. Eventually, I walked over and said, "I'm dining alone too. Would you like to have lunch together?" She was overjoyed! It turns out she had spent the last decade living with her mom who recently passed away, and her aunt who was recently placed in a nursing home, so she has been struggling with being alone. We had a delightful conversation, and she just kept smiling and expressing gratitude for listening to her, which made me smile too!
Easily the best decision I've made all year!!! Her name is Delores, and we will be having lunch every Thursday from now on.
