While this past year and a half has felt like Ground Hog Day in so many ways, there's been a rapid acceleration in terms of digital transformation. More businesses are looking for ways to automate and consolidate their business processes than ever before. Low-code platforms have come on hot, due to this demand and the "developer drought", but are they the next wave or just a red herring?

We think that low-code platforms absolutely have their place in the world of business, but we don't think they are the silver bullet that many might be promising. The more complex the use-case and the more feature rich the product, the more unlikely a low-code platform is the right way to go.

If your business is evaluating a low-code platform, we highly recommend you read about the pros and cons of it in this article from Forbes- http://ow.ly/Jvt150FSi1v.

We welcome your questions and comments about this topic!

Though low-code platforms are popular now and are going through a hype cycle, especially with Covid-19 accelerating digital transformation, they are not going to replace professional software developers anytime soon.

"The fact that modern software is built using open-source packages and 3rd party services means that the landscape in app development changes constantly. Add to this the endless updates to the languages we use, and it becomes impossible to guarantee that anything works the way it used to. When we start a project, we need to check that everything we're planning to use hasn't changed. Also, with new services and packages appearing all the time, we need to make sure we're really using the best tools for each project (bearing in mind that the newest is often NOT the best)."

Work consumes a major part of our lives, so we should enjoy it, right?

Hear from Zina Olado, one of our User Experience Designers, about why she loves being a UX Designer:

1. Never boring.
I get to work with lots of different disciplines and different industries. I’m always learning something new.

2. All about people.
It’s a fascinating process to investigate the “who, what, why, where, and when” of the product life cycle and human behavior. I love asking questions, making assumptions, and getting unpredictable feedback, and then figuring out how to apply these amazing findings to the design.

3. Connecting the dots and optimizing processes.
I see the dots as user behaviors, environments, goals, needs…and all of the factors that affect them. When we combine these elements together, we create a system. Figuring out how things work and then optimizing them is an exciting challenge. I love removing pain points and making complex things simple.

4. Making a difference.
I am improving people’s lives and businesses through technology, which motivates me to give my all.

LCI Workers' Comp is a leading workers’ comp provider in the state of Louisiana. By investing in technology, they make the jobs of their members and agents easier. We have been fortunate enough to be their tech partner for over 10 years, and we admire their leadership’s focus on innovation.

The current product we’re building with them is a mobile app for their members to use to make payments and manage their policy info. We’ve locked the designs and are getting started on the implementation. Looking forward to seeing the impact this new tool will have on their business!
