A recent discussion on Imposter Syndrome hit a nerve on our team. Here are some ways to cope when you feel like a fraud.

This year, software engineer Dan Horne gave a presentation on Imposter Syndrome that hit a nerve on our team. During the rest of the weekly engineering meeting, coworkers shared advice on handling this uncomfortable, sometimes debilitating psychological phenomenon. Here are ten takeaways from our co...

Keeping remote teams connected is challenging. In weekly team meetings, technical teams can share knowledge, learn new skills, and build a supportive culture.

Keeping remote teams connected is challenging. In addition to an all-hands meeting, we build team culture through weekly department meetings for our technical teams: design, software engineering, and product management. The main focus of these zoom gatherings is not logistics but sharing knowledge,....

In this article, Julien Urraca, Revelry software engineer, offers a field guide to Web3. He explains, “As technologists, it is crucial to understand the distinction between Bitcoin and crypto since it results in two very different systems which will determine the future directions of the Web itself.”

On a recent Saturday evening in Austin, Texas, I left a talk between a human rights activist and an Afghan entrepreneur revolving around using Bitcoin to evade repressive regimes, and walked down towards Consensus to see the last few advertising vans circling the block, their electronic panels brigh...

Interested in the Svelte framework? To learn more about this open-source front-end compiler, Revelry software engineer Jordan Estes created a Magic the Gathering card fetching app. Svelte made the app easy to set up and fun to build.

Many web developers use JavaScript to make their websites responsive and reactive. With the advent of Node.js and npm, many devs have moved from simple static web pages to fully reactive apps that run in the browser. Enabled by the popular frameworks React, Vue, and Angular, web apps and SPAs are ev...

What happens when a bug has been in a codebase for too long? Jason Pollentier, Director of Engineering, describes a typical situation, “The app has a behavior… a niche or even obsolete feature, a configuration option, or even an implementation detail under the hood (e.g., cache)
- Whatever it is, it confounds the expectations of a naive user (aka everybody who’s not intimately familiar with the thing)
- Over and over, customers, QA, POs, or new devs run into it and think it’s a bug.
- An initiate patiently / proudly explains that no, it’s not a bug, you just have to do X, and it’ll be fine.
- We go on with our day with one more initiate who ‘gets it’ and thinks the thing isn’t a bug.
THE THING IS A BUG!!!
It’s like Stockholm Syndrome where the bugs are the jailers.”

Termites and software bugs have this in common: they must be identified and managed quickly to avoid devastation. Termites can destroy the structural integrity of your home, and bugs can wreak havoc on profits, user experience, and a developer's mental health. Unfortunately, while physical character...

"With organization and creativity, online meetings can do more than share information; they can kickstart connections with coworkers and add a little more joy to the workday."

After years of remote work, is it possible to enjoy a Zoom meeting? After months of experiments, our All Hands meeting is now a highlight of the week. A recent participant commented, "this is the best meeting I've ever attended." So how did we switch things up? We focused on two things: structure...

“What happens typically in software development is that a company hands a technical team an RFP and tells them to go build it. The tech team follows the instructions exactly. Then they secretly giggle while giving you the thing they knew would never work, but you said you wanted it...

But that’s not what we strive to do here. What’s different about Revelry is that we care more about understanding those problems before trying to solve them, to ensure our software creates the right outcome.”

“There's a fractal nature to the Revelry process. Whenever I advise someone who is stuck using our process, I see this psychedelic, colorful background of like a Mandelbrot set or a video zooming into molecules & panning out to deep space in my head. Because no matter how far you zoom in or...
