My humble font library is growing! With the recent addition of Thanatos, there are now 120 fonts in the catalogue, spread out over 7 typefaces.

Plans for the future? Plenty, but I’m not spilling the details just yet. I will tell you that I’d like to maintain the balance between truly weird, conceptual display stuff, and fonts that you can actually use for more than a few words. Thanatos was *an ordeal* to make, but in terms of usability it is my best work yet.

I’m not really trying to focus on one particular style of work, but just draw the things I want to draw. As long as I do that, a style can’t help but rear its head.

Anyway, play around with the interactive type testers, browse PDF specimens, read the stories behind the fonts, and if you feel like it: buy them, exclusively (for now) on Herzberg Design dot com

In the occasional spare hour, I’ve been drawing this calligraphic Roman with exaggerated sharp strokes. Might keep it to a single weight, maybe add an italic. We’ll see.

New release: Libido! Take a 30% off release promo, for the next four days only (applied automatically).

Libido is a unicase display typeface, inspired by the work of 1960’s psychedelic poster artist Wes Wilson (who himself took a note from early 1900’s Viennese artist Alfred Roller).
Each letter is a rectangle, with a few elegant cut-outs that give it the shape of a letter. Their minimal exteriors allow for the letters to easily be stretched, warped, and distorted.

Before Libido, the only way to achieve this look was custom hand-lettering. Now, thanks to the magic of variable fonts and some hard work by yours truly, it can be as easy as pie!
Libido’s width axis morphs letters from narrow to extremely wide, and its optical sizing axis allows each letter to look (relatively) legible both big and small. But more importantly, when combining these axes together, the width axis will allow each line to be as wide as the next, and the optical sizing axis will help you to achieve uniform contrast. Wes Wilson couldn’t have done it better himself.

However, Libido goes further than imitating the work of artists past. Besides the traditional “Smooth” style, Libido has a “ragged” style which removes all curves. The ragged style is a unique take on the genre, and has a rather different vibe from the smooth cut.
While it carries the same benefits—fully variable width and optical sizing—it doesn’t carry the same psychedelic connotations as its counterpart, and can therefore be employed in new and interesting settings.

Libido comes equipped with a wide character set (probably wider than necessary—are you really going to need a μ or a § in this style?), which includes Latin Plus language support.
There is also a fine selection of ornamental glyphs, which can be used in patterns, as border decorations, or otherwise.

Available and testable on my website, link in bio :)

Progress on my commissioned horror font. Inspired by classics like Albertus and ITC Benguiat, with serifs you could cut your finger on. Up next: optical sizing axis, this display cut doesn’t hold up too well at small sizes. @ New Orleans, Louisiana

Concept sketches for a custom typeface I’ve been hired to design for a short sci-fi/horror film. Can’t say too much about the film yet but it’s dreadful in the best possible way. Client went with option 1, as its the best fit for them vibes. The typeface will be variable with a full weight axis, and maybe I’ll add optical sizing too... and it’ll also be available for retail later down the line 😎 @ New Orleans, Louisiana

It’s January 13th, which means it’s constitution day in Mongolia! To honor this very special event, Bonkus is on sale for the first time ever: 33% off for the next 24 hours. I don’t do discounts often (I didn’t even do Black Friday) so if you need a funky sans, I wouldn’t sleep on this. ✌️ Link obviously in bio

While Bonkus works great in both contemporary and 70’s/80’s inspired work, its roots lay in the 1920’s-30’s. With its geometric forms, it fits perfectly in design calling back to Art Deco, Bauhaus, Constructivism and the likes. Here’s a few mediocre examples of that. Available on my website and fontspring. @ New Orleans, Louisiana

Back to the retro samples: Bonkus 2.0 on some fake books from your childhood. Which one would you rather read? I grew up on vintage paleontology books with depictions of dinosaurs we now know are wildly inaccurate, so they have a special charm to me. I have no interest in reading Mark Benniford’s “Sharp Curves” but I did enjoy drawing its cover. @ New Orleans, Louisiana

Howdy friends, Bonkus 2.0 is out now. There might be a Bonkus 3.0 one day, but for the time being it simply doesn’t get better than this in the category “bent tube typefaces”.

Spacing has been redone from scratch (!), kerning has been massively upgraded, tons of little thingies have been refined. And to make it worth your while, I also added two whole new stylistic sets and added ligatures for each stylistic set, as well as ligatures for the Cyrillic. I’ll be posting about these neat features in the next few days, but go to link in bio to see it for yourself.

Price is, and will remain, $45 for the whole motherf*cker. That’s a damn steal. You’re welcome. Oh, and if you’ve bought Bonkus in the past, you should’ve received the update in your mailbox (or your spam box). @ New Orleans, Louisiana
