Let's REWIND to October 19, 1985 when the first Blockbuster video-rental store opened, in Dallas, TX. While most video stores at the time were small, mom and pop operations featuring a limited selection of titles, Blockbuster opened with 8,000+ tapes displayed on shelves around the store and a computerized check-out process. The company expanded rapidly, eventually becoming one of the world’s largest providers of in-home movies and game entertainment, before eventually filing for bankruptcy in 2010.

🍯 Today marks the 100th anniversary of A.A. Milne's classic children's book, Winnie-the-Pooh, illustrated by by E.H. Shepard and inspired by Milne's son, Christopher Robin and his stuffed animals. Fun fact: those actual stuffed animals have been on display just a few blocks away from QFA HQ at the New York Public Library since 1987.

Today in NYC History: October 9, 1985: The Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park was officially dedicated by Mayor Ed Koch in honor of the late John Lennon.

It's the first Tuesday of October and that means it's National Taco (Tues)Day! Tacos were introduced to the United States by Mexican migrants in the early 20th century, with street vendors and taquerias popping up in cities across the Southwest. However, it was the invention of the pre-formed, hard-shell taco that helped launch the food into mainstream American culture.

Today in NYC History: Brooklyn bus driver Ralph Kramden (played by Jackie Gleason) made his television debut on October 5, 1951, in a six-minute "Honeymooners" segment of the "Cavalcade of Stars" variety show. Ralph (and his wife, Alice) wouldn't get their own half-hour series until 1955.
