Happy Birthday to Marian Anderson! What an inspiration this woman is to me. I was honored to design a CD cover for her and her beautiful contralto voice while I was an Art Director at BMG Classics/RCA Victor. I was doubly proud when the CD cover was featured in MARIAN ANDERSON: THE Whole World in Her Hands, as part of the PBS American Masters series. Sing away, Marian! Proud to be part of the team that is promoting Gordon Getty’s opera, “Goodbye, Mr. Chips.” Looking forward to the premiere.

On the eve of author James Hilton’s birthday, I’m thinking about his famous novella Goodbye, Mr. Chips. The story of the beloved English schoolmaster inspired my latest opera.

We follow Chips, as he was affectionately called, from his first days at Brookfield boarding school in 1870, through his marriage to the woman who changed him forever, to the monumental developments at the turn of the century and the outbreak of World War I. Chips leaves all those whose lives he touched changed, as Hilton’s story leaves us.

The world premiere of my opera Goodbye, Mr. Chips will, we all hope, take place next summer during Festival Napa Valley’s 15th Anniversary celebration.

Bello Design produced the digital and print marketing campaign for Rork Music and The Center for Contemporary Opera's upcoming double bill, SCARE PAIR, two one-act operas by Gordon Getty. The operas are inspired by Edgar Allan Poe and Oscar Wilde. MUST SEE!
