AI companies are sending two very different messages.
To business owners: AI will replace jobs.
To employees: AI will not replace jobs.
Both can be true—but the bigger change usually happens before an employee is replaced.
The workflow changes first.
AI begins handling research, intake, follow-up, scheduling, drafting, and repetitive tasks.
The human role shifts toward judgment, relationships, exceptions, approvals, and accountability.
The problem is that many companies add AI without redesigning the process.
Employees keep doing the old job while also supervising the new technology.
That does not create efficiency.
It creates confusion, risk, and more work.
Through my work at DapraLab and what I’m learning through MIT Professional Education, one thing is becoming clear:
AI transformation is not about buying more tools.
It is about redesigning how work gets done.
What should AI handle—and what must remain human?
