I am incredibly honored and excited to host Part Two of Alternative Pathways to Parenthood, a two-part educational webinar series presented by the East Bronx Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.
This series was created to educate our community about alternative and nontraditional ways to grow and support families. Part One focused on women’s health equity, fertility options, and the health conditions and circumstances that can affect a woman’s ability to conceive.
Part Two, which focuses on foster care and adoption, is especially near and dear to my heart. After spending seven years in the foster care system, this conversation is deeply personal to me.
We will discuss more than statistics, requirements, and expectations for prospective foster and adoptive parents. We will also examine the lived realities of foster youth—the trauma they may carry, the trust that must be rebuilt, and the patience, stability, compassion, and advocacy they deserve.
My hope is that this webinar inspires people to become stronger advocates, better-informed caregivers, and active participants in creating meaningful change. Foster youth do not need people who simply want to “save” them. They need adults who are prepared to listen, remain consistent, protect their dignity, and help them feel safe, valued, and supported.
I am deeply grateful to the East Bronx Section of NCNW for trusting me with the opportunity to host this important conversation.
Register now and join us tonight at 7:30 p.m. for an honest, educational, and necessary discussion about foster care, adoption, advocacy, and the role each of us can play in helping children and families thrive. I hope to see you there.
