Meta wants to turn your AI chats into ad targeting data. Shocking absolutely no one who’s been paying attention.

They’re testing ad products based on conversations you have with Meta AI—because apparently your posts, likes, DMs, search history, off-platform activity, and that thing you looked at once in 2019 weren’t giving them enough to work with.

Here’s my issue: I run campaigns on this platform. I know how good the targeting is. I also know how thin the line is between “hyper-relevant” and “creepy surveillance capitalism.”

And Meta keeps dancing on that line like it’s a tightrope act.

Sure, advertisers will love another signal. Sure, it’ll probably improve CTR in the short term. But at what point does the erosion of user trust start tanking performance because people just… stop engaging authentically?

You can’t optimize your way out of a trust problem. And Meta’s been trying since 2018.

I’ll watch how this plays out, but color me skeptical that this ends anywhere other than another Senate hearing and a half-hearted apology tour.

There’s no opt-out option, other than ignoring the chatbot.

Anyway—if you’re still running ads there, at least your community manager will spend less time playing detective with bot accounts. Small wins.

X is working on new transparency features to help users identify who they’re interacting with, such as account creation date, location, username change history, and how each account uses the service.

Meta finally made Reels easier to find and share on Facebook. Only took them three years to realize burying their TikTok clone wasn’t the move.

New features: better discovery tools, streamlined sharing, improved creator controls. Translation: they’re admitting the original Reels rollout was a mess and hoping you forgot.

If you’ve been running video creative on Facebook, this *might* improve organic reach. Emphasis on might—because Meta’s track record on promises vs. delivery is… generous.

Still, easier sharing = more distribution potential for brands actually investing in short-form. Worth testing if your creative team isn’t already maxed out chasing algorithm changes.
