.design recently expanded their Bacana Chairs into a full collection including their first ever outdoor pieces, new indoor seating AND a collab with and . Keeping with Sabai's push for sustainability in design, the outdoor collection introduces a new fabric called Banatex, a durable, biodegradable and plastic-free fabric made purely from regeneratively grown Abacá banana plants. Bacana x Ethan + Rob includes two limited edition fabrics for the indoor collection:
1- a dark blue 100% cotton denim
2-a tan workwear fabric
PLUS a customization kit with vintage patches, fabric paint and studs. Says Rob, "I also thought about culture now, people are expressing themselves through customization. Whether it be tattoos like me, keychains and bag charms, bumper stickers on your car, but I didn't see that in the world of furniture that you can customize. We encourage people to get creative with their pieces like it is their favorite denim jacket."
The collaboration is inspired by Ethan and Rob finding a "sense of belonging in Los Angeles, a place where self-expression isn’t just accepted, it’s expected. Ethan also says that "I’ve always loved how denim has an everlasting quality to it, the fades, the rips, the way good denim relaxes and it slowly becomes a piece of you. That’s what we wanted this piece to embody: an object that evolves with you, your home, your personal style, and your life."
