There were designers who created beautiful clothes—and then there was Bob Mackie, who created magic.

He was the master of illusion, fantasy and pure glamour. His extraordinary imagination inspired generations and gave millions of us some of the most unforgettable fashion moments of our lives, worn by the biggest and most glamorous stars in the world.

Bob didn’t simply dress stars—he helped create icons. Every sequin, feather, crystal and daring silhouette told a story. His genius was in understanding drama, movement, sensuality and the transformative power of fashion in a way that was entirely his own.

He was a true American original whose influence reached far beyond fashion and became part of our cultural history.

Bob Mackie deserved a major exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art celebrating the extraordinary breadth of his work and the joy, fantasy and glamour he brought to the world.

My only wish is that such an honor had come during his lifetime, so he could have stood among his incredible creations and felt the enormous admiration and love that surrounded his work.

There will never be another Bob Mackie. His magic will live forever.
