Style begins with a story.

For Nancy Hassett, the journey began with a design that challenged the conventional idea of gloves. Where it led was a world of elegance, confidence, movement, and something refined enough to become part of a woman’s everyday identity.

This project became especially meaningful through the creative chemistry between Nancy Hassett and Rob Janoff. Even while facing illness in the final stages of the project, Rob remained deeply committed to working closely with Nancy to bring her vision to life with clarity and care.

One founder’s vision became a complete brand ecosystem.

At Rob Janoff, we shaped the strategy through market research, brand traits, values, naming, logo design, visual language, a full brand guide, website, and social direction.

But why focus so deeply on nomenclature when the brand carries the founder’s own name?

Because a brand is more than a name alone.

More than 100 naming directions were explored before arriving at the final selection. We tested memorability, mouthfeel, emotional connection, ownability, and the lasting impression a name leaves behind.

Some of the most important design work is invisible at brand launch.

Before sharing the full reveal, we wanted to highlight a formative part of the branding process for this exciting new project.

Here, the starting point was Santa Barbara. Its architecture, materials, and light. The arches, tiles, and botanical details that define its character.

There’s a personal connection as well. Rob Janoff began his career in Los Angeles, and the California coast still influences his perspective today.

From this foundation, a series of hand-drawn patterns emerged. Each one refined into a system that could extend across product and packaging.

Design research doesn’t always appear in the final expression, but it ensures every decision that a founder makes is rooted the complete view, including how locality shapes an outcome.

UPDATE TO THIS POST: house saved property extremely fire damaged, we are extremely fortunate🙌

Dear friends,
Sadly our beautiful ’Mt Budd’ property and studio has fallen victim to the “Longwood fire”. We watched our house being consumed on a security camera until the live feed was cut yesterday about 4:30pm. My wife Michelle, our dog Frankie and I are all safe. Forgive us if we don’t reply to messages at this point in time. We need a little space to absorb the situation. I will post an update in time to come. Our hearts go out to our friends and neighbours who are in a similar situation.
