Today is Rare Disease Day, the rarest day of the year. To show our unwavering commitment to serving the rare disease community, we are proud to share our first global awareness campaign “Diseases Should Be Rare, Not Cures”  

Similar to flowers, each person living with a rare disease is unique and beautiful. We have partnered with Green Field Paper to create plantable greeting cards (each printed with a lesson on a specific rare condition) to spread awareness and beauty by planting seeds that will eventually blossom into rare flowers.

Last week marked a major milestone in public health inclusivity. The rolled out a new screening process for donors: an individualized risk assessment for ALL donors, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The Red Cross is the largest provider of blood products in the U.S., servicing 40% of our nation’s blood supply. This monumental change means more people can support the lifesaving mission of donating blood, which has historically restricted LGBTQIA+ male and masculine-identifying blood donors from full participation. The new donor assessment reflects a recent guidelines update from the , following extensive review of data sources including the FDA-funded ADVANCE study. 
 
The timing couldn’t be more critical. The COVID-19 pandemic has decimated our nation’s blood supply like never before. Just last year, the Red Cross declared its first-ever blood supply crisis — and we’re still not out of the woods yet. At Havas, we’re committed to helping our employees give. We saw incredible turnout at our annual blood drive in May!
